I know I’ll get covid next week. How to prepare?

Anonymous

Anyone with suggestions? I go back to work and my three kids go back to school. We’ll be careful but I’m also realistic. The most careful people I know have gotten omicron.

Quarantine should be possible if only part of the family gets it. We have 5 people in a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house.

Any specific food items or other helpful things I can get to help recovery?

We’re all vaccinated and parents are boosted.

Eh. My DH had covid before Christmas. Four kids plus me and none of us even had a sniffle.

Just think ahead on food. Bread can go in the freezer for example, and you can get shelf-stable milk like Parmalot. If you do have to quarantine, it’ll be easier to not have to need to shop for the basics.

If you get exhaustion you’ll want ready meals for everyone. So prep those however. Get the laundry pre-done. If you clean house yourself clean it up. Stock up on headache, cough, and cold meds.

That’s what I’d do. Why not?

Unless one of you is high-risk, it's not worth the hassle to isolate some household members from others, given your house. So just lock down the house as soon as someone has symptoms. We're 4 in a tiny house, and that's what we plan on doing. I bought extra Tylenol in all doses and powders (for younger kids), recovery fluids in powder form for better hydration, and a pulse ox.

All the young kids I know who got covid recently and were vaxxed barely had a sniffle.

In addition to Tylenol, some Kleenex may come in handy.

I just did this as I’m in the exact same boat. I stocked up on cold supplies (cough drops, Tylenol/Ibuprofen, Vicks, pedialyte popsicles) and made sure I had a ton of easy food to cook (cans of soup, stuff for burritos/quesadillas, eggs, bread, peanut butter, etc). We have a healthy 9 month old but otherwise everyone in our family is low risk, and once someone gets it we’ll just suck it up for the next 10-12 days, chicken pox style.

How did you used to prepare to come down with a cold? I’m serious.

Plenty of canned soup, cough and cold meds for all ages, vitamin c and zinc tablets. Get a mouthwash containing CPC and use it twice a day starting right now. I've been using this for months and haven't caught it even when surrounded by positive cases (hospital worker).

You aren't going to be incapacitated, geez. How would you prepare if we were expecting a lot of snow? That's all I would do.

For me, the problem is less the symptoms and more the “not being able to leave the house to buy food and cough drops”. Nothing wrong with anticipating all of your potential needs when you’re sick!

You can get those things delivered. Or ask a friend to drop on the porch.

You can still leave the house. Haven’t you seen sick people at cvs?
