BOE Members,

I sent a message to the Interim Superintendent, Chiefs, and COVID Team Leads yesterday expressing concern about the lack of communication about the re-entry next week. I sit on the COVID Advisory Team (COAT) and though the team is publicly touted as advising the system, we have received no information (or been asked for any input) about the plans for next week. Last night, I did receive a response from Dr. McKnight that a communication is going out to the community, as planned, today. This is the first I was made aware there is any announcement coming. What they are announcing is a secret, even from those that are supposedly advising the system.

I want to be sure the BOE is aware, the lack of clear, timely, and transparent information is creating tremendous anxiety for families – as evidenced through the emails, texts, and social media posts flowing. If you’d like more details or wish to engage directly with COAT members (holding medical and scientific degrees directly related to this particular crisis) to learn what they would advise, if asked, please let me know. I’m happy to connect you directly.

Many thanks,

Cynthia Simonson

What responsible and transplant leadership from McKnight…

She’s done, right? I think she’s burned bridges with everyone at this point.

Last communication to parents was in 12/1. No community communication following that prior to the break.

However, they did have time to get the BOE to approve a week of paid leave for the central office and additional half-days for teachers.

It’s absolute incompetence and the saddest part is that while it should end her chance to get the position full time, it won’t.

Every parent in this county should be very, very concerned about what comes next.

The last communication to parents was on 12/21, not 12/1.

What forthcoming email?

I guess the anxiety meds have gone missing due to supply chain issues. I read the 12/21 email and understand the plan. If they change the plan that's when I want new information.

Looks like MCPS is committed to opening with no mitigation plan. The 5% number isn't even an automatic trigger, and requires consultation with the health dept. By the time that happens, it'll probably be 50%. The lack of leadership is amazing.
