OMG. Another coach who also works in the school outside of coaching duties. MCPS athletics needs to really do some soul searching on practices that expose children to predators.
This coach traveled with students out of state. Not sure how much his school supervised such trips but typically no school administrators accompany MCPS Cross Country and Track teams for such trips. So many opportunities for a child predator to harm students when trips are overnight. |

One thing is very clear-- for all the money mcps spends, there is no "internal affairs " officer for athletics. There absolutely must be. That person or people should be responsible for monitoring athletic staff to be sure they are following the guidelines about student- staff interactions, locker room protocol (Damascus rape case), and other opportunities for youth to be abused.
They hired a PR person for Covid. They can't hire a person to be sure pedophiles aren't communicating with student athletes inappropriately or students aren't alone, unmonitored in locker rooms? Leadership fail. Every parent should be outraged at the lack of safety. |

One could argue the need for outside investigator of MCPS for these types of cases. Was anyone checking to see during the past five years if this coach followed the MCPS Employee Code of Conduct? Were there reports by students that fell through the cracks?
MCPS athletics has a long list of coaches and past coaches who turned out to be child predators. They are moths attracted to the flame because there is little oversight of what happens between coaches and students after the academic day ends. Seriously clean house MCPS. How many of these types of arrests will it take to improve student safety in the MCPS athletics program. |

MCPS will cover up bad behavior until the police have enough evidence for an arrest. The vast majority of reports against MCPS employees are never investigated. I pray for the child (hopefully not children) that was harmed. |

This is another reason why we need new Board of Ed members. We need Non-Apple Ballot candidates that will make decisions on what’s best for students versus protecting corrupt employees. Bring in an independent investigator to improve student safety and clean house of child predators. Predators are attracted to school systems where there is little oversight. |

Child predators will try to work or volunteer wherever children are. Church, scouts, schools, day care.
I doubt we'll ever be able to get rid of it completely. We have procedures that should both out the pervs and protect the innocent. They need to be more rigorously followed. |
