The Kentucky accent is definitely out of step with the correct pronunciation of many words.

He was married to a Frenchwoman and lived in France for years. As a French person currently living in the US, who has lived in many other countries before that, I've always noticed my accent changes after a few years of living anywhere.

Please don't think accent changes are affected! I've heard that theory for years on DCUM, and it's hurtful and silly to think that most people would deliberately make an effort to change how they speak - way too much trouble (notable exception: Thatcher). Some people are just natural mimics and do it without even realizing they do it.

We just haven't forgotten Madonna and LiLo's fake accents.

That's the point. They're probably not fake. Madonna has lived in many countries, and has been around a lot of people who don't speak English with an American accent. No idea about the other.

Madonna took lessons to sound British.

OK? He doesn't sound like he's from KY.
