BIL covid behavior

My brother in law got a single J&J shot back in the summer. He's not antivax, just lazy and irresponsible and didn't get a shot until we took the initiative to make him an appointment and remind him constantly to go. He has not gotten any kind of booster, even though one J&J is clearly not enough protection especially against the new variant. He also does a lot of stuff - he's been on planes many times recently including this past Tuesday. He goes to Brazillian ju jitsu and grapples with people. He goes to bars.

Am I crazy for saying I don't want to see him indoors until he at least gets a booster? My kids are too young to be vaccinated and we regularly see my parents who are extremely immune compromised, such that they're at very high risk even though they are vaxed and booster. BIL seems like a massive covid vector to me. My husband thinks I'm being unreasonable.

Sorry, I should add - we planned to see BIL's family for Christmas morning. So this would essentially be canceling Christmas, altho both of us have other plans with different family members for Christmas Eve. My husband thinks it's extreme to cancel Christmas over this. I wasn't aware until this week that BIL only ever got one J&J shot or else I would have made it an issue a while ago.

Do not see that walking bag of pestiferous Covid if he refuses to take precautions.

13:38 again: my boostered 75 year old aunt goes to bridge tournaments, celebrates her wins at cafes all over the place, holds multiple Holiday parties and visits her own 99 year old and very frail aunt at her home without masks, all "because she's vaccinated".

She even continued this after being exposed to Covid at someone's funeral - one of the guests had Covid. She didn't test because "she felt fine!" and continues on her merry way. That same day she had a dinner party.

We are NOT seeing her for Christmas or anytime soon.

I agree with your DH. How is he getting a booster going to protect your kids?

My understanding is that J&J is not effective against omicron. A public health official on one of the Sunday shows last week said people who received J&J may just want to ignore that all together and get a full two shot MRNA vaccine. I think if he got an mrna booster he’s a least slightly less likely to be carrying/spreading Covid, is how it would protect my kids.

Yes, wife and kid are both vaccinated with MRNA. Wife is boosted, I don’t think the kid is eligible for booster yet.

That’s not how it works. Vaccinated people carry/ spread Covid just like anyone else. They just don’t get as sick themselves- usually

And she clearly also hasn’t suffered any ill effects from being exposed. She sounds smart and delightful!

Serious question - if I have been vaxxed and boosted, and wear my mask when required to, how am I a Covid denier?

You would be irresponsible seeing him IMO. He's clearly creating unnecessary risk for your kids and parents. If he cares so little about their health, there is no reason to see him.

That they don't get as sick helps them not to spread COVID as easily because they aren't coughing all over.
