Our nanny started at the end of August and we really like her, so want to be generous with her holiday bonus but don’t want to set an expectation that will leave her disappointed in the future.
We gave our previous nanny 1.5 weeks of pay in the past so we were trying to determine whether we should give our new nanny a full week, or if they she will expect 2 weeks in the future given that she worked with us for only 4 months. Should we do half of the 1.5 week bonus and hopefully she would expect around double the following year? What would others do here? |
I’d give her a week since she’s only been here 4 months. After all, the hardest part is in the beginning learning a new baby and their schedule
I just hired a new person on October 1 and budget made me prorate their bonus. I’m not thrilled because 1/4 a bonus isn’t great. |
Whatever you give is nice. My previous employers gave $250 the first two years, then a 1 week bonus the four years after. I never expected 2 week bonus or more after year 3. |
I would’ve left after the first year |
We still have our nanny who started in July two weeks pay. And continued giving the same for the last seven years.
Is it a gift or bonus? Bonuses increase while gifts remain the same (with yearly salary increases included). |
+1. A gift is a gift. Gifts aren’t expected to go up based on length of employment. |
Two weeks seems excessive. One week is fine. |
Two weeks is standard in my circle and that was confirmed by our nanny agency when I asked years ago. PP from above with the same nanny for seven plus years. |
I’ve been with my family for 10 years and they gave me $200. My gift to them is giving my notice. I found a new job. I’m done being treated this way! I’ve worked so hard during the pandemic when they had no housekeeper and expected me to pick up the slack. |
+1 Same. Plus a wrapped gift. |
+1, one week is standard in my HCOL city. I did a little over one week for our nanny who started in September, plus about $200 in gifts for her and her daughter. |
I'd give a bit less than a week's pay since they started in August. |
Prorate the yearly bonus (x) so give her 1/3x. This is standard practice. |
It is considered income, whether you call it a bonus or gift. You can keep an annual bonus fixed if you raise her pay. |
Good for you PP‼️ I am tired of being overworked as well. Wishing you the best in the New Year. |
