Does a child have to stay home from school if their parent tests positive but kid is negative? |
Medically, any household member should isolate as well. But I'm sure there are no "rules" about it and everyone just does their own thing, which is why we're in this mess.
|
Not if the student is fully vaxxed. My kids didn’t have to stay home when my husband and I got it. They chose to, as they only missed a few days right before break, but the school said they could be there. |
Not if they are fully vaccinated AND asymptomatic |
The problem is all those rules were pre-Omicon and when we thought the vaccine was more reliable then we know it is now. Nonetheless they are the rules. |
+1. Same for the teachers. We are told to keep coming if we are exposed and don’t have symptoms. We are not even required to test. |
Not required to test even if a close contact? This thing is going to rip through public schools after winter break. It’s going too be an ugly scene. |
The health department recommends testing 5-7 days after exposure. I was a close contact over the summer. |
Don’t test if you’re not symptomatic! Keep healthy kids in school |
I could see the rules making sense for lesser contacts, but you will be judged if you follow these rules and your child later tests positive, causing their classmates to need to quarantine and test. |
I’m not a student. I teach the unvaccinated. I want to know if I have enough viral load to spread it. I test weekly at work. |
Look it’s the “Don’t test students! Keep spreading COVID in schools!” poster again. |
Positive, asymptomatic people still need to isolate per CDC guidelines. Until that changes this is so, so stupid. It’s like Trump saying there would be fewer cases if there was less testing. It does not work that way. There are the same number of cases whether we detect them through testing or not. The difference is that when positive people isolate for 10 days after a positive test per CDC guidelines they prevent spreading it to more people. |
This may have changed since we dealt with it in October, but back then my unvaxxed dd was sick and tested positive. We were told her unvaxxed brother had to quarantine for 14 days from the date of his last contact with her within the 10 days from her positive test. Vaxxed dh and I did not have to quarantine, but we were asked to wear masks when we were out. All of us were told to test 5-7 days after dd was positive. So based on that, I’d say an unvaxxed kid would have to stay home but a vaxxed child could go back to school. But your local health department should be the ones to provide official guidance. |
Jesus, yes. No wonder we are still dealing with this. WTF. |
