ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Anonymous
Midwest United (michigan) becomes the first ECNL club to officially get dropped by the league.

Will there be more to come?

GA can officially say they picked up a full ECNL club now I guess.

Wait and see. There is a strong push inside ECNL to goto grad year. 25/26 will be SY but the plan is secretly grad year.

I’m not a fan of it either but with the changing college landscape they believe it is best. They do not see hold backs as an issue but rather more reason for colleges coaches to recruit from ECNL.

If ECNL goes GY it's 100% over.

You'll get a group of parents and players that game the system with 16 year old "freshman" in HS.

Also private schools will get into the mix + offer free scholorships to 16 year old freshman so they can beat club teams.

Unless there is currently a lot going on behind the scenes with ECNL and US Soccer, there’s no way ECNL can make SY happen in 25/26. ECNL was crazy not to make that happen.

That’s because it’s being planned under the table…..

ECNL will be SY 26/27 9/1 cutoff but showcases will be based off grad year. 27/28 each team can use up to 3 GY players for league play. 28/29 ECNL is a grad year league.

Hopefully ecnl can drop Pleasanton Rage (NorCal) next and get some diversity within league play. Some of the clubs are not competitive and haven’t been for a while.

A buddy of mine who’s a former pro and college coach currently an ECNL coach told me this is being discussed. Let’s stop it now and get anti GY going.

No hold backs allowed!

Grad Year will happen just wait and see. No doubt showcase rules for ECNL will allow it in 26/27. Not sure if the plan is to call it that.

Really hope that isn’t the plan. How convoluted. What a wasted couple of years. Just make the change!

Maybe for the real Football but no high schools are giving soccer scholarships.
