I have been intrigued by the clothes presented in Succession. Casually, its been a fun visual experience looking at what rich people wear. This season her outfits are a little ghastly. Do you think it is intentional?

Yes shiv is unraveling and her clothes reflect that

This is one of my guesses. And if it’s intentional, then well done. Just one more sign that she’s not cut out for the world she desperately wants to inhabit. As opposed to, say, Gerri, who knows how to dress appropriately for any occasion.

My other theory is that she arrived on set having gained too much to fit into the clothes wardrobe had planned for her and they did their best to get things off the rack quickly so as to not to hold up filming.

Either way, I don’t care. She’s a great actress.

I thought her suits this season still looked sharp. It was really just a couple of too-tight dresses

I agree the Ted Baker dress she wore to the wedding was unflattering. It was too tight, but the larger issue was that it was tight to the knee and then she wore a pair of heels with an ankle cuff. So two severe vertical lines going across the lower half of her body and literally cutting her off at the knees. She would have looked a million times better (and IRL been more comfortable over the course of a long day) in a light, floor length dress with a fitted bodice and pretty neckline, and a pair of more delicate sandals.

But I think they wanted the white column for a number of reasons, not least a few shot compositions with her brothers where it was significant for her to be in white (connecting her to Kendall's white shirt and also posing as a contrast to Roman) and also specifically for her dress to be drawing a line through the shot. A number of commentators have noted that there are two particular shots with classical compositions reminiscent of certain Renaissance or Baroque paintings, and having Shiv in white adds a layer to that (white often being the color used for the Madonna or for a figure like the Venus de Milo in such paintings, representing innocence). Since the plot of the episode cast Shiv, Kendall, and Roman as children begging for their father's protection, and since a major theme of the episode (and an actual topic of discussion) was motherhood and birth, putting Shiv in white makes thematic sense. That it was not a great fashion choice for the character may have been seen as secondary. Regardless of what you think of the fashion aspect, you must admit this is an extraordinarily gorgeous shot:

She wore a white dress to a wedding

And gave an acidic, borderline cruel toast to the bride and groom that she also used to highlight her own terrible marriage.

It's not like this is supposed to be a show of characters who root for and applaud for their behavior. It honestly makes sense that she'd wear an ill-fitting, inappropriate dress to her mom's wedding. She thought the wedding was a joke and in the end, her mom's marriage winds up [she believes] screwing her out of a chance to run the family company because of the decision to redo the divorce decree to get her new stepdad some London apartment he really wanted.

This show is about ugly people.

Well, she hates her mother so that tracks.

But it has a floral print

A later interview suggests that shot was not planned, Kendall sitting on the ground was a more organic choice the actor made after a bunch of previous takes weren't hitting the right emotional mark. So the nice composition of that shot may just have been luck! It was a great scene. And yes, Sarah Snook's outfits in Italy were just off. She has a lovely figure that they don't always do justice to!

Her hand looks swollen in that picture where it's on Kendall's head. Is she pregnant?

The actress gained a bunch of weight and then lost some of it quickly. So some of the unflattering clothing is probably not the writers' intention. My DH and I thought she was pregnant as well, but apparently not. (I had preeclampsia and he has gotten really good at noticing pregnancy swelling among random women. Lol)

Great photo, it perfectly highlights her coldness: looking at her cell phone while mindlessly placing her fingers on her brothers head. And then there is Roman who is a surprisingly warm and loving person underneath his obnoxious and hilarious exterior. He also has great taste in women, Jerry is wonderful.

It wasn’t just the dresses that seemed off to me in the Italy scenes, but her upper arms were clearly sunburned also. Makes me think it was all intentional to make her appear disheveled/out of sorts because I’d think that would be easy enough to even out with makeup.

When they style her well, this woman is stunning.
