I admit I am an old fogey and do t keep up with the latest stars especially the ones who got their start on YouTube or Tik Tok.
My 14 year old dd and her friends wanted to see Olivia Rodrigo when she comes to DC. The friend’ moms and I agreed they could go, so I tell my DD she wasn’t allowed to go and we planned to buy the tickets to surprise her for Christmas. The other moms were also goi g to surprise their daughters. We looked at prices online and saw they were a minimum of $400. We thought we’d just wait until Ticketmaster started selling them. Our max was $150 a ticket. Big mistake - I didn’t realize you had to be a verified fan to even enter the queue. I am hearing stories that even verified fans had to wait an hour in the queue only for it to be sold out and prices were way too high. People are saying they see tickets being resold on other sites and minimum is $400. Some are saying the cheapest tickets in their town is $900. It’s Olivia freaking Rodrigo. Who is spending that type of money for their teen to see Olivia Rodrigo? Why would someone pay $900 to see her? |
| That’s just what the market says. If you can afford it, go for it. |
| And a dozen years ago we paid $250 to take our 13 year olds to see Taylor Swift. If you can afford it, go. |
| No idea. I can play all the (better) artists she rips off from the comfort of my own home if I am so inclined. |
| Just be glad you didn’t try to see BTS in LA. |
| Damn isn’t she pretty new to the scene? Is she even a good performer? |
| Tickets are expensive. I remember when I bought tickets for my daughter to see Taylor Swift years ago. I had sticker shock. The best place to go is directly to the venue and not through a second party seller. The second party sellers mark up the tickets horrifically! |
Sorry reading comprehension. I see Olivia Rodrigo is sold out. Yeah, you’ll be paying steep prices for those tickets from secondary sellers. It is such a scam. my daughter got tickets to that concert because she got preapproved to purchase them, I don’t know how. Her tickets were only $50 a pop and they got four of them. So if secondary sellers are selling them for $400! That’s quite a markup! |

My DDs wanted me to take them, but the tickets were apparently sold out in like 20 min (although I wonder if robo-ticket "customers" had anything to do with that). And standing room tix started at something insane like $1000.
She's playing at Anthem which is fairly small Surprised she didn't go to something like Eagle Bank Arena. I only know 2 of her songs. They're not bad and I can see her appeal, but wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars to take my kids (on a school night too!). |
| I got one floor ticket for $60 but that’s all I could get as a verified fan. Literally 5 min later all the tickets had gone to $400. Bought a second for that price since it kinda sorta evens out. But I agree it’s crazy. Tween was gonna go with friends but now she’ll go with me lol. |
This. Tickets were reselling for $25k. Of course, BTS has an extensive, huge discography of massive, incredible hits. They also dance and generally make it worth your while. Olivia Rodrigo has one album and I'm sure will just be singing into a mic in the middle of an empty stage |

Getting tickets for any big act is a crapshoot these days. The bots pretty much grab up all the tickets and they are immediately resold.
It doesn't matter if they're new and popular or old and still touring, the bots grab all the tickets. |
| Not the point of your post I know, but I think it's cruel and manipulative for you to tell her no, when you know darn well it's a good idea. It could still be a Christmas present, just one she knows about in advance. Were you planning to film her reaction on Christmas morning to put on the 'gram? If so, that's gross. |
I’m a verified fan and was given a priority code because my tickets to their previous MOTS:7 tour were cancelled. Was unable to get tickets before they sold out, before even hitting the general public. Somehow the resale sites still got them though. |
Yeah a lot of the MOTS:7 fans missed out. It didnt even get close to general public and they sold out four nights of stadiums. Highest grossing concert series since Pink Floyd reunited in 2012. Absolutely nuts. I felt bad for many of the MOTS fans who couldnt go...this was a frenzy |
