Cardinal Gibbons, while a strong NC team, cannot compete with the teams in this area. Lake Norman usually beats them as a matter of fact. See for yourself. You can bet that most teams that they have played here in the DMV area used all reserves for the second half. Calvert Hall once beat them 17-1. This is not meant to knock the program and I’m sure it’s a wonderful school. The point is they should not be put in the “challenging” category. |
|
Cardinal Gibbons went undefeated last year, what are you taking about?
Are they a National powerhouse, NO but they are solid program. I’d put them in the same level as PVI / DeMatha. |
| Definitely not. But yes, they were undefeated in NC last year. Congratulations to them. A little research on MaxPreps will shed some light. |
|
I'm not seeing where they lost to Calvert Hall 17-1. I see back in the Spring of 2015, they lost to Calvert Hall 11-1 (we are talking 7 seasons ago). St Johns was a no-name program in 2015, obviously, a lot can change in 7 seasons with the right coach and institutional backing.
Gibbons hired a new lax coach during COVID and the program is on the rise. |
| Typo. Yes 11-1. Again, not criticizing program. Only pointing out they shouldn’t be in the same conversation as challenging teams such as Culver, St. Anthony’s, Haverford, IMG and the top teams around here. |
|
I agree with you, Gibbons program as a whole is far from being in the same league as BL, Calvert Hall, IMG, St Anthonys, G Prep, Hill Academy.
WCAC people, stop acting like PVI and DeMatha are some type of lacrosse powerhouses (this is not hoops). DeMatha has one strong team every 4-5 seasons (last year was the best team they had in a while). I don't think PVI has ever won a WCAC title for lax. I'd put Gibbons in the same sentence as PVI or DeMatha. If you take them lightly, they have the athletes make it a dog fight and sneak out a W. |
The title of the thread implies 2021-2022. All teams are undefeated for the 2022 season. Last season is over 2021 grads are in college. Summer and fall shows something but Spring is what counts. Based on last summer PVI beat Bullis and fall tied Gonzaga PVI should be at the same level as Gonzaga better than Dematha and lower than SJC no more no less. Comparing them to cardinal Gibbons is silly. PVI has as tough a schedule as any team this season so we will soon see. |
Have you seen Prep's schedule this spring, its a gauntlet? Based on what I can see, its the hardest in the DC area. SJC Saint Mary's Gilman Loyola Blakefield Malvern Prep Westminster Brunswick Gonzaga Landon Saint Stephens Bullis |
Gilman, Loyola, Westmister are all at the level of Cardinal Gibbons. Gilman and Loyola will be down this year--Westminster?!? of Carroll County?? Really. |
|
Westminster from CT.
Loyola is always very solid but graduated a deep senior class last spring. Gilman has been down the past few seasons but has a new coach. SJC dad give it a rest |
Landon 😂 SSSA 😏 Bullis 🤪 Gilman 🤣 Blakefield 🥴 St. Mary’s 🧐 |
| Gillman has been pretty sub par as of late.....Loyola/BF.....ummmm,,,you must not watch alot of lax if you think they are no good....Westminster from CT....ok...never heard of them...sounds like another overrated founders league team....have heard of the Westminster from Carroll County, MD....they used to be good and beat up on low level MIAA and WCAC teams like Dematha/Spaulding and Mt St. Joes..........not so much these days....but coach Defao will have them back at some point. Bullis....no....Brunswick....no...SSSA....lord no....get a better sceddy |
You have never heard of Westminster School in CT? Do you live under a rock? It’s a boarding school with a pretty strong lacrosse history. Very well-known school. |
you must not be that bright, Westminster is a very prestigious school. |
