He was obviously joking. I hope we don't have to pretend this is a serious comment and listen to people argue the merits.
Don’t you think that’s a really weird thing to joke about?
That's the nature of humor. I just can't deal with people pretending that DeSantis is drawing up plans to build a state prison next to Disney when he clearly isn't.
At this point, it seems like DeSantis is unlikely to win. The charges against Trump basically secures him as the nominee. And, DeSantis is pushing his luck with the 6 week abortion ban and not being able to let the Disney thing go. So I can't deal with people pretending to take seriously every random joke he makes, it's just dumb and tiresome.
The guy is utterly lacking in a sense of humor. When have you ever seen him make a joke? What reason do you have to believe this is a joke? He's a petty, mean, thin-skinned man who eats pudding with his fingers. This thing with Disney is so absurd that it's almost like the plot of a satirical novel - like I could see Tom Perrotta writing this. I would totally read that, by the way, if you're listening, Tom Perrotta.
Democrats may have a shot at 2024, if Republicans split between a man who will be portrayed as uncouth and unlikeable in the primary, and a man accused of multiple felonies.
DeSantis is ramping up this aggressive talk because right now conservatives are on an anti-LGBT kick (they've beaten the abortion horse to death, and BLM has calmed down). This is all Presidential campaign positioning, and making a national name for himself on the conservative issue of the day. Whether actual restrictions on Disney follow is less important than how he talks about it on TV...
