Please send every thought and prayer for option 2.

I haven’t found anyone who wants to start earlier… good thing though is finishing on June 8. Finishing on the 17 this year is asinine.

Glad that they also got rid of that ridiculousness of weeks with asynchronous days because obviously people take off and kids travel. Wokeism don’t work.

Wait, 173 days for students? Virginia requires that students attend 180 days of school!

Is your kid going to fall behind because of 1 week? Haha. You must be the special one in your group.

I'm just a little fascinated because that is directly contradicting a state law.

I don't think that anyone is crying here. We are just speculating about whether this is a legitimate calendar or not.

It’s 180 days OR 990 hours

Oh, of course! So they still have plenty of built in snow days as well. Thanks for reminding me.

I’m a teacher in Fairfax Co. I like the three designated unencumbered planning days before the students start, but why have two after the students end? Do grades go home after the last day?

Andrew Hoyler presented a third option on his Facebook page.

FCPS has always also had two, for packing up classrooms. Are you really a teacher?

They didn’t get rid of it, it doesn’t occur in the schedule next year because of when Diwali falls in the lunar calendar.

It’s 180 days OR 990 hours. Loudoun has been using hours instead of days for years and years now. They also count asynchronous days as instructional time so there’s that.

I’m voting for the longer calendar. There is literally no difference except one has 3 fewer days at the beginning of the year. Why would I vote for less school?

I am. Elementary for almost 30 years. We get one day after the students leave. Grades are always due a week+ before the students leave. There are no 4th quarter workdays to work on entering grades, which seemingly take forever to do.
