I just ate a medium well burger at Silver Diner which I thought was fine but my husband is freaking out because he said it looked pink inside. I’m 21 weeks and I feel fine but now he’s freaking me out. There are so many “do nots” to keep track of and some food-related discussions on this forum that are now making me extremely concerned.
Can someone reassure me that the burger won’t hurt my baby please? 😔 |
It's fine. The risk is a cumulative one. There is a tiny risk of contamination each time you eat raw milk cheese, or undercooked meat, etc. The danger comes from eating it regularly during pregnancy. |
I’m pretty confident you are fine. It’s totally normal to over think when your expecting. I did, especially the first time DW was pregnant. Perhaps that’s why the oldest tends to be more high strong. I’m the oldest btw. Pls enjoy the miraculous experience you are going through. |
I’m sure you’ll be fine. But burgers should always be cooked well done. They are not steaks. |
What can you do about it now anyway? |
Silver Diner is a reputable establishment. I am sure the beef they served is fine and your baby will be fine. |
Both you and your husband need to read Expecting Better to really understand risk. You’re fine. Eat your burger. Have lunch meat. Have sushi. |
Wow your husband needs to relax or this will be a long long road |
This. Ridiculous fear-mongering. |
Medium-well with some pink? Are you kidding? And at 21 weeks? Unclench. The "do nots" are over the tops and I'm not even convinced this is one. |
That is a false and utterly ridiculous claim. |
First I’ll start by you’re totally fine. Even with some pink it was likely heated appropriately. You don’t want to eat it rare. However, it is NOT a cumulative risk. Listeria or toxoplasmosis doesn’t “build up” in your system. You either contracted it because it was present in the meat or you didn’t. I also recommend Expecting Better. |
Agreed. A well done burger is not worth eating. |
I did read it! I’ll give him my copy ![]() |
Nope. Has nothing to do with being pregnant. Hamburger meat should always be cooked through to 160 degrees. |
