Maybe this is old news to others, but did others know the Board passed a resolution in June about examining the feasibility of giving all current high school students the option of not counting middle school grades in their high school GPA? Currently this option is only available to students in grades 9 and below. Does anyone know whether a decision has been made on this?

As far as I knew this was always the case with the handful of middle school classes that can be counted. It was at the students discretion. |
No, they adopted the policy in 2018, but it only applied to students entering middle school that year. Not to the then 7h and 8th graders (now 10th and 11th graders). |
| I believe in design your own GPA. Only count the classes you want to be counted! |
| The Board resolution in June applies the 2018 policy change to all MCPS students. Students can include their grades from HS level classes taken in MS grades if they wish, but they're not obligated to do so. I happen to know the parent who agitated to make this happen and am very glad that the Board was responsive. It never made sense that the policy was changed only for younger kids. |
| Has this gone into effect? Will people cover up their world language 1 and 2 As to get their gpas higher above 4.0? |
It's a done deal. |
Why don’t our affected kids know? |
Although I was aware of the policy, I also came across it on their website a few weeks ago. It's not like they haven't made this perfectly clear to anyone who wants to know. |
| Can anyone post the new policy? Can’t find it thanks |
They should have sent an email out to everyone. We didn’t receive one. Can you please post the supposed change in policy? I can’t find it anywhere. |
| I just looked on the website. Don’t see any mention of it. |
Dear MCPS employee, Rather than just defending the incompetence of your agency, could you actually do something useful and post the policy? It’s not on the website as far as I can tell. |
We have not heard anything about it. DD has all As in middle school classes, but most aren’t weighted as honors so they bring down weighted GPA. Are you saying they can still be on transcript but not bring down GPA? |
wait a freaking second. Are you telling me that one can drop their middle school language classes from their GPA so it doesn't bring down the weighted GPA? Same with not including middle school Geometry grades? |
