APS fall assessment - What the heck do the numbers mean?

Anonymous
Actually what does any of it actually mean?

My kid got math score of 1527 and a verbal score of 1865. He didn't miss any verbal questions but missed a couple math question. Did each subject area only have one question or were there multiple questions per subject and the X means they missed (one or more?)

Anyway, this seems pretty useless (to a parent) if I have no idea what the score means or where it places him? I am guessing he did okay on Math and obviously fine on verbal.

I mean mine are posted, I don't know about anyone else. I assume yes?

Totally agree. I looked at my kid's scores and I have no clue what the numbers mean. I don't understand why VDOE didn't publish some sort of key or explanation. Without that these scores are useless.

On the right is the benchmark. It may vary depending on grade but ours lists the scores where intervention would be suggested .

Okay, I'm one of the PPs and just found something for APS: https://www.apsva.us/instruction/curriculum-instruction/assessment/the-parent-corner/fall-growth-assessments/ If you scroll down it has links for interpreting the scores.

Yep. There's nothing on the DOE page that is referenced "for more information."

OP here: Oh this was not there before. But this is for DIBELS and Math Inventory which is different than the fall assessment scores (as far as I know). The fall assessment scores have no key.

Thank you for this. Not sure why that wasn't listed on the uploaded document.

For my young the DIEBELS and PALS scores give completely different results. I think my kid was not in the mood to be assessed on PALS day.

Yes there is. https://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/parent-resources/index.shtml

I only see one page for my kid now.

I guess it's better than before when I saw one page for my kid (verbal) and one page for another kid (math).

Think they are still working on math?

DIBELS is a true screener -- its looking for things like learning delays or if your kid really can't read at all. Depending on how young your child is, it might not be very meaningful.
