What was your experience like? Any tips based on your experience? These guys are unlicensed and uninsured right? How do you pay if a job that was estimated for 2 hours but only took 1.5 hours. Do I pay for 2 or prorated to 1.5? TIA |
I have. The person was super slow. Something took 3 hours that should have been 1. Some of this was him not being an expert at what he was doing and some was him just slow rolling it. At hour 2, when he was only half done, I told him I was only paying for another hour and then kicking him out and he magically managed to finish in 45 minutes. He did not prorate |
Ouch, that sucks. Are you a woman? If so, do you think he was doing that because you are a woman? |
Yes, I needed help getting a bunch of heavy and awkward items up into the attic and didn’t want to wait for a friend to come by. I picked someone with a lot of good reviews. He showed up on time and I showed him the job, then he got started. I helped him with getting things up the attic ladder. We were done in 36 minutes and I paid for 1 hour, though he said he would keep working for the rest of the time if I had anything else for him to do. I’m a woman and felt it was a good deal. |
Had a poor experience, tried 3 different highly rated folks.
Pros: easy to communicate and schedule, they show up and usually on time. Cons: with each person, they all required multiple time to come by, do you have to scheduled multiple times. And they all worked very slowly. And then the worked looked bad a few months later. I thought the reviews would be helpful in finding the better people, but they aren’t. |
Sounds like physical work maybe ok but not skilled work like electrical or carpentry not ok?? |
Electrical you want a licensed electrician. |
I've used Task Rabbit many times, mostly for assembling furniture and I've never had a problem. I always pick someone who has done a lot of assembly jobs and who has close to 100% 5 star ratings.
If I say it will take 2-3 hours, it's usually pretty accurate. |
Tried once but the taskers all tried charging me triple or more what it should have cost. Change an existing light fixture? $300. Hang up a mirror? $200. It was a huge waste of time trying to communicate with them.

Love them. Just select carefully and communicate well on expectations |
They are great.

I hired one to switch out a bathroom sink faucet. He screwed it up so badly, used the wrong caulk (non waterproof) and took 5 hours. I got credited by Task Rabbit for my hiring of a plumber to fix it, which is what I should have done in the first place. |
I have a friend who has had a good experience for making Ikea furniture but when I hired people to do handyman type things they messed them up so badly it cost more to fix.
I feel like there are many people on there who are dishonest about their ability to do things and also extend the time so they can get paid more. I hate this service actually. |
I know someone on task rabbit. He was convicted of sexual.assault. it was plead down from attempted rape. He's a very dangerous person. |
I’ve had very good experiences. Have used for cleaning, painting, and very simple electrical like changing a fixture (something I am capable of doing but don’t always want to). |
