We are doing nanny interviews and the one we seem to like the most will be bringing her own child with her in addition to our 2 little kids (all kids 3 years old and younger).
Has anyone else done this before? Does it work out having 1 person watch that many young children? Are there problems I'm not foreseeing with the nanny bringing their own children? Other things I should be thinking about or considering from those who have had the same situation before? Thanks! |
I don't have this experience, but I am a twin mom. I can't imagine trying to take 3 kids under three anywhere - the park, etc. Unless you plan the nanny & kids staying at your home the entire time, I don't see how this could work. Maybeeee if you get a triple stroller, but even then? How to supervise three littles at the park, etc.
I did read a post in Slate parenting about someone who hired a nanny with a child (but only had one kid). Both kids were under 3. The parent said the hardest part was that the nanny's child was not used to "sharing" her mom and was sorta possessive and territorial (I don't blame the kid, it's natural at that age), so the other kid was constantly getting ignored. |
Absolutely not. We had several applicants who slipped in this "request" after we had settled on them. |
I was always unwilling to hire a nanny who brought her kid to work. I did look into it and it seems to work best when nanny’s kid(s) are not the same age/stage as yours. If 2 toddlers are crying, who do you think nanny would comfort first, amd do you even want her to be in that position? |
Post on this from the Nanny forum. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/nanny-forum/posts/list/362256.page |
I worked as a nanny for a few years for a family with one child. My DD was about a year younger than their DS. Everything worked out well. They knew they were only having one child and liked the idea of a playmate. They had the same schedule so it worked out well. They did buy a double stroller which we used a lot for walks. They gave me a car seat which I kept in my car all of the time unless the grandparents visited and wanted to take the child somewhere. |
How much less will you pay? Where will her child nap in your house? Who will buy a tripple stroller? Will the Nanny bring food for her child? |
This seems like a terrible deal. You’re basically hosting a nanny share and paying 100% of the nanny’s salary. |
Totally fine |
Plus 1 People love when i bring my daughter to a babysitting job. A playmate bonus. |
Nope. 1 kid and 1 nannys kid. Maaybe. 3 kids, no way. |
Yeah, but how do you do this with 3 kids -- three car seats, triple stroller...? How do you manage? The ages don't seem right for this. If it was 2 kids, fine. |
How would it work? If your children are in activities, do you have to pay for hers? What about driving and car seats? What about salary? I'd expect to pay 1/3 less if there are three kid. (I wouldn't care so much about food but all the other logistics when you have two kids seems a bit much). |
This, who pays for things like the stroller? Its really not a bonus playmate but free child care for the nanny. |
What if the family already has playmates in mind that they want the nanny to do playdates with? |
