Arlington honors band grades 4-6 -- how long after auditions did you hear?

Just wondering when we will hear about whether our kid got into honors band for grades 4-6. We have some travel we are looking to plan and our dates would be different if our kid got into honors band. Personally I am not super optimistic that our kid got in but we are new to the process and we have no idea how hard it is to get in. thanks

Is there a honors band for 4-6? I never heard of this. Would love to learn more.

Yes, and honors chorus. I don’t think they did it last year, and the concerts the previous year wound up being cancelled. As far as I know, music/band teachers refer students who then audition. But I don’t know what happens after that. It’s our kids’ first year, too.

It’s not by referral. Anyone can audition. It’s a fun experience. They take most kids.

As a former music teacher, I just wanted to say thank you for understanding that kiddo will need to be here for rehearsals/concert. Really. I know this sounds...common sense. But: oy.

Good luck!

Thanks for letting me know about this. DS1 is in 4th and started playing trumpet this year but is taking lessons and doing pretty well. I think he would love this next year.

Maybe email the choir director (for the honors band)? About the dates, I mean, not whether your kid got in. The concert is scheduled -- its on the APS calendar, and usually the rehearsals were like Tuesdays or Wednesdays for a month and then twice a week the last two weeks before the concert.

Countywide, the auditions are in the fall, info (dates, music) is on the APS website. Kids go to Kenmore (in the past, anyhow) and audition, then if they get in they rehearse once a week with kids from other schools across the county, then there is a performance. They take X many of each instrument so it partly depends on what your kid plays -- there are probably more flutes than tuba players. There is also honors orchestra and chorus. Audition is a practice piece and some sight reading.

Op here we know the dates for rehearsals. We would be away for one of the last Tues rehearsal times (but would rearrange things if our kid got in). Our kid said he made a mistake in the tryout so I am assuming he didn't get in.
