ECNL moving to school year not calendar

This is all fugazi. ECNL will make the change starting Fall 26. If clubs deceive to play up that’s on them.

In my kids club they always play their U12 top teams up to U13 anyway which is really common around here. My kid is a 14 though, so if her club decided to move her down with the current 15s and play them up to U12 9v9, it would actually mean my kid would get an extra year at 9v9 ironically.

I don’t know what fugazi is, but I believe you are right. ECNL shit the bed on making the move in a timely manner

Do you have any insider info? If not, crawl back and sit.

There will be no changes—that’s what U.S. Soccer has proposed.

No club is going to reveal its plans a year in advance, but that’s exactly what Admin is doing. They have every player’s birthdate and rank them within each team.

Take this scenario:
• A club has five trapped players in the 2010 age group.
• The same club has two trapped players in the 2011 age group.

The five 2010 players move down to take spots on the 2011 team. As a result, five players from the original 2011 team are pushed out and forced to find a new club.

It’s just not logical.

Do you know ECNL can have a roaster of 30 players? The club will keep all players, stupid!

If those 5 are good enough to take the spots and if so then welcome to soccer tryouts!

Even the smallest amount of tactics + passing will win games. But this isn't how players think at that age. Which is why they're supposed to be playing 9v9.

Watching some U12 pre-ECNL scrimmages trying out 11 v 11 for the first time this winter, I've been pleasantly surprised how quickly they've adjusted to the bigger field. Love more touches 9 v 9, but it's almost a different sport compared to 1 or 2 girls dominating on the small field. Maybe it's just that tactics & passing are actually working !

Agreed, how is your scenario of 5 trapped players any different than a regular tryout...most teams see their bottom 3 (or more) players replaced.

U.S. Soccer said no “registration changes”, not no changes.

If ecnl league rules say 2025/26 is BY registration, how are these trapped players joining SY teams a year early?

Because they can make the rules whatever they want.

Just like MLS has done biobanding bullshit to allow 3 players to play down for many years without anyone giving a f**k, ECNL can also make its own rule in its own league. Anybody who has wishful thinking that ECNL will be a sitting duck will have a surprising wake-up call soon.

Yep. It's asinine to think that ECNL will wait 18 months to at least strongly suggest clubs switch to SY teams. They entire 25/26 year would be miserable with lame duck teams anyway.

I think you are giving ecnl way too much credit.
