| Just approved by the board. |
| It'll be a holiday for students and staff. |
| Nice |
| Well there aren’t enough nannies/sitters to cover that day either. What to make your problem my problem, Board. |
Would you feel more comfortable if you child sat in the gymcafetorium with 300 other kids watching movies the whole day? I’d rather mine were with me. |
The way for MCPS to tackle this problem would have been to increase substitute teacher pay and increase their pool of subs. |
| Well, thank goodness! |
Every silver lining has a cloud. |
| So you think the roads will be busier Wed morning or Wed afternoon now? Maybe we leave Tuesday night. . . |
| At least they're being truthful about the reasons. |
| Good. They have a lot of extremely unhappy employees right now and I am shuddering to think of what the resignation rate is going to be at the end of this year. They needed to do something to at least pay lip service to it. Other districts have been doing things like adding monthly half days or closing the entire week of Thanksgiving so this is not out of line. |
| Cool, so can Monday and Tuesday go back to being full days of school then? |
Nope! Teacher conference days. Why would they go back to full days? |
| Note that the proposed calendars for next year all have the same Thanksgiving week schedule with three half-days on Monday-Wednesday. Seems like this issue might occur again next year, and it might be worth noting that in comments to the Board about the calendar options if you don't want another last-minute decision made next year.
