Can someone shed some light on this? It seems that a group is sueing Madlax, True and Legacy for their breach of contract due to racial implications. Can’t say I’m not surprised because it is Cabell involved in yet another scandal, but does anyone know more? |

There’s a link in there that says it is to the complaint but it’s one drive so didn’t click. There also appears to be something on Law360 but subscription based. |
Basically what is happening is that a particularly sketchy national club, Nationals, is mad that Madlax and other clubs won’t allow them to participate in tournaments. Nationals claims in the complaint it is because they have some minority players. But does not make any specific allegations of discrimination. The reason that clubs don’t want to allow Nationals at tournaments is because they aggressively recruit players from other teams at the tournaments in a way that pisses off the established clubs. Of course, all teams try to poach players, but Nationals seeks to do it in a way that undermines the business model of the established clubs. That is, we will get you exposure at a few key tournaments if you pay us a ton of money and there won’t be the same practice requirements. For instance, Nationals was charging like 2K to play for them this fall. That is way more than even the expensive clubs like Madlax. To add to that, the Nationals guy has a reputation of sketchy financial behavior. So this is really an issue between Nationals and the established clubs over money. I’ve never heard any true issues of discrimination involving Nationals. Some of their teams have minorities/people of color, but not an unusual number. For sure, lacrosse is not the most inclusive sport and minority groups often have valid claims they aren’t treated fairly in the sport. But the Nationals aren’t like PG lacrosse or Harlem lacrosse seeking to expand opportunities. They are a national club looking to make a buck. |
The complaint definitely looks like it was drafted by a sole practitioner. Are they hoping for media pressure to force a settlement? |
Anyone else going Cabell responds in an email? |

If this case is about money why would any bring this case that really has very little merit. Spending money for something that will get thrown out. Not sure how you can prove racism for being excluding from participating in a crappy Madlax tournament. |
As much as I like to talk about Cabel being bad, this suit is a joke. The Nationals guy is the rare person worse than Cabel. You can search the internet for stuff related to Dukes lacrosse in PA for a flavor. And Nationals adds players they recruit during tournaments. That violates basically every tournaments rules so teams block them from playing. Nationals whole model relies on them getting into big events and this suit sure isn’t going to help. |
Nationals guy ain’t the brightest bulb. This sure isn’t going to help his cause. |
This has to be fake because every top team has stopped going to Madlax tournaments because of the cheating and the constant re-arranging of the brackets mid-tournament to try and benefit Madlax and Madlax Texas or whatever franchises are there. So my guess is Madlax trying to drum up interest by starting rumors of a lawsuit. |
The lawsuit is real. That is a fact. |
Only half right. Nationals charge more than 2k but that is for the year and they do pro-rate. Most of the complaints against the director stem from parents of the Duke's program who thought their kids would automatically be on the national team. The team is hard to make and good players just aren't good enough. A lot of good hoco players have been told no thanks. Ciach G has definitely improved the admin part from when he started, but that was a pretty low bar. Cabel better hope he didn't write anything stupid in his emails. Oh, wait. Maybe True will be getting stronger in the near future. |
This is actually funny as isn't Cabell the biggest poacher out there? I thought the saying was if he hasn't come after your son with promises about playing for him, your kid isn't really playing lacrosse. Guy has no shame. |
