Basically what is happening is that a particularly sketchy national club, Nationals, is mad that Madlax and other clubs won’t allow them to participate in tournaments. Nationals claims in the complaint it is because they have some minority players. But does not make any specific allegations of discrimination. The reason that clubs don’t want to allow Nationals at tournaments is because they aggressively recruit players from other teams at the tournaments in a way that pisses off the established clubs. Of course, all teams try to poach players, but Nationals seeks to do it in a way that undermines the business model of the established clubs. That is, we will get you exposure at a few key tournaments if you pay us a ton of money and there won’t be the same practice requirements. For instance, Nationals was charging like 2K to play for them this fall. That is way more than even the expensive clubs like Madlax. To add to that, the Nationals guy has a reputation of sketchy financial behavior. So this is really an issue between Nationals and the established clubs over money. I’ve never heard any true issues of discrimination involving Nationals. Some of their teams have minorities/people of color, but not an unusual number. For sure, lacrosse is not the most inclusive sport and minority groups often have valid claims they aren’t treated fairly in the sport. But the Nationals aren’t like PG lacrosse or Harlem lacrosse seeking to expand opportunities. They are a national club looking to make a buck.
Only half right. Nationals charge more than 2k but that is for the year and they do pro-rate. Most of the complaints against the director stem from parents of the Duke's program who thought their kids would automatically be on the national team. The team is hard to make and good players just aren't good enough. A lot of good hoco players have been told no thanks. Ciach G has definitely improved the admin part from when he started, but that was a pretty low bar. Cabel better hope he didn't write anything stupid in his emails. Oh, wait. Maybe True will be getting stronger in the near future.
