One bit of cross training that would benefit a lot of players I see at U12-13 would be baseball, football or both. Top young soccer players are horrendous at judging balls in the air and coordinating their run to where they should be to control the ball. The amount of misreading is incredible. Watching the ball while moving and using peripheral to spot others is all second nature to kids who are used to these games. Alternatively, of course, kids could simply work with longer passes and more goal kicks as a matter of course and learn how to walk and chew gum at the same time.
