| I can't find information on it. |
| Our ES and MS are closed, per their weekly notes. |
| Closed. It’s a professional days so teachers report to work. |
All teachers, except first year teachers, can telework on the 4th. Don’t drive by a school Thursday, see an almost empty parking lot, and run to DCUM to post about this lazy teachers. |
| Why can’t first year teachers? |
It's their first time doing grades. They need to be on-site so that they can get help with the process if they need it and so that department heads can monitor how they are doing. |

i never understood why MCPS does not schedule their professional days on observed Holidays.
For example, it is truly a shame that MCPS did not schedule their Professional Day the following week on November 11th (Veteran's Day). It's disrespectful to all Veterans. Who makes these decisions? Is there a way to change this? |
I am a veteran and a federal employee and I am thrilled!! I have a day off and the kids will be gone. This is my favorite day of the year, tied with Columbus Day (same scenario). Don’t ruin it for me trying to make a show of respecting me! |
The professional day is to allow them time to finish up semester grades. It would be pointless to set it later. |
To answer your question, the Board of Education approves the calendars each year. In fact, the 2022-23 calendar is under discussion right now. There are three options being considered, but none of them has Veterans Day as a professional day. |
| Schools are closed on Nov 4 in MCPS for Diwali. |
No. They are closed for end of marking period grading. A process that happens 4x a school year. |
| Only complaint about this is they do it on a Thursday. Just move it to Friday, so everyone has a three day weekend. It’s so disruptive and stupid. |
It’s both. Had Diwali not been Thursday, the professional day for grading would have been Friday. Expect high absence rates amongst both students and staff. With the sub shortage, Friday is gonna be a sh1tshow. |
