| It is reckless driving to go 20+ over speed limit in Virginia. I heard people got arrested for doing 30+. So, i pay a lot more attention to my speed when driving in Virginia, less so in Maryland. |
| I try not to go 20 over anyway. But yes, I know someone who got a criminal conviction for doing 80 or so on 66, lost his job as a result. It does cross my mind. |
|
Holy crap, I always knew MD drivers were terrible. You typically drive 20+ over the limit?!
Yes, PLEASE slow down in Virginia. Ten over the limit is fine, so long as you aren’t in the left lane. And tell the people you know who go 30+ to STFD. |

The Nationals Jason Werth famously had to spend a couple nights in jail some years ago when he was clocked doing 105 mph on the beltway.
I always take it easy in Virginia since I figure just about everyone has a gun in the car. |
|
Pffft! The average speed on the beltway has to be in the mid 70's. I regularly drive 70 instead of 55 and my wife jokes that it feels like we are crawling along since other cars are constantly passing us at 75-80 or more.
It's even worse on 95 where cars routinely drive over 80 where the speed limit is higher |
It is not fine in neighborhoods! |
This thread is not about neighborhoods. |
| WTF is wrong with you, OP? Speeding is one of the top causes of accidents. There is an intersection near my house where a couple was killed making a left turn by a speeding vehicle. For two year since the accident someone tends a memorial wreath and cross there. On occasion my four year old DD asks me why there are flowers at the intersection. Something for you to think about next time you have the urge to drive 20 mph over the speed limit. |
| I bet you where a mask alone in the car OP due to your screwed up risk perceptions. |
Relax, I just drive with the flow of traffic. In Virginia, if the traffic in my lane starts exceeding 15, I’d get over to the right. |
| Both MD and DC have speed cameras that trigger at ~12 mph over the limit. In VA, there are no cameras. While I still pay attention to not going more than 20 mph over the limit because of the reckless driving issue, I'm more likely to go 113-19 mph over the limit in VA than the other jurisdictions. |
There are no speed cameras on highways though |
Those reckless drivers are Marylanders in VA. My car was hit twice by aggressive MD drivers. |
There are in construction zones. |
Really? Even on beltway? |
