Go ahead and tell me I should just move to Ashburn if I'm bothered by this:
https://www.popville.com/2021/10/arrest-made-dc-alleged-attempted-kidnapping/ Holy crap that is terrifying. |
| Does "no fixed address" mean that the charged individual was currently homeless? I wonder what the story is there. I also wonder where the responding officers came from. |
Terrifying. But I don't know why it would be less likely to happen in Ashburn. |
| Sounds like a mental illness case. Terrifying, but could also happen in any suburban parking lot as well. |
Especially as worse happened in Fairfax this week https://www.fox5dc.com/news/fairfax-man-snuck-into-chantilly-high-school-and-sexually-assaulted-student-police-say |
It’s unclear why you consider that “worse.” |
I always consider rape of a child worse. |

no fixed address can mean homeless, or they just don't know the person's address at the time they put out the statement. Like this guy who shot at someone after he got in an accident with his very nice car in a nice part of town https://mpdc.dc.gov/release/arrest-made-assault-dangerous-weapon-offense-gun-3200-block-morrison-street-northwest I doubt he was homeless. He just might not have shown ID.

It's not, but that's a standard response by some posters whenever there's a complaint about crime in DC. |

Since the start of the pandemic, there has been a marked increase in camping and loitering by individuals of no fixed address in Adams Morgan. In fact, the Save Our Plaza/anti-hotel folks are foolishly encouraging this.
Obviously, most of those unhoused people are limiting themselves to cat calling women and girls, not actively trying to abduct children. But to the extent that neighborhood has anything to do with this incident, it should be said that there are more unsavory people loitering in Adams Morgan today than I have seen in years. Its like two decades of progress evaporated in just a year and a half. |
The Save Our Plaza/anti-hotel folks would say this is progress! |
|
Crazy homeless person is crazy. News at 11.
I mean, this could happen anywhere. More likely to happen in a dense city. |
|
Except that these couple of blocks are a particularly popular gathering place for homeless people, both dangerously crazy and maybe more discreetly crazy.
I live very nearby and am devastated by the decline. I'm also flabbergasted by how delighted the old counterculture Boomers are to have their seedy neighborhood back. |
You’ll be happy to hear that no one in your linked story was raped, then. |
