| I saw the updates for MoCo, hoping there was similar good news for DC? |
| I wish. Last I saw, Bowser had denied a request from some local gyms to remove the mask mandate for certain classes if they verified vaccination status of all participants. I feel like they won't permit a group of people who have provided proof of vaccination to remove their masks indoors, the likelihood of lifting the mask mandate more broadly is pretty low. I feel like it will be spring at the earliest (after kids under 12 and under 5 have had a chance to get vaccinated, and when any winter surge fades). |
| LOL we will mask forever. The hysterics of a select few about delta, and their impact on DC policies, have shown this. |
| DC also has a sizable population that refuses to get vaccinated but are fine with masks. Yglesias has documents pretty well that Bowser is afraid of those voters. |
Can you link to something on this? |
| At some point people will simply stop wearing masks. |
| Wait a minute, and I'm sorry that I'm not paying attention to DC, but DC does not have any metrics as to when unmask? No endgame? So, what is DC working towards? |
Bowser keeping her un-vaxxed constituents happy is all that matters. There are zero metrics. The basic set-up is to ignore the mandate in restaurants, half ass them in grocery stores and then play by the rules at a school or in a government building. It will be like this through the winter at least. Where it really sucks is in gyms, where Bowser has refused to incorporate a vaccination requirement and instead sticks mask mandate, proving that her mandate has zero to do with science and is all about coddling the unvaccinated. |
| I honestly thought the masking was over in DC given what I saw on TV while watching the Capitals. Some see were masked, most were not. |
They aren't even good at playing by the rules in government buildings. I was recently at the main police station, and saw more unmasked noses/unmasked faces than anywhere else. |
I’m truly surprised. This entire time I thought DC was on par with Montgomery County in terms of metrics and goals. Not having a plan is crazy. I’m not having a plan and not enforcing your own mandate is mine blowing. Might as well not have a mask mandate at all and just let people decide for themselves if that’s how they’re going to run it. |
| Is there a plan to fire district employees for not vaxing like other cities have? |
Bowser will not do anything against the unvaccinated. She knows who her base is. Give it up |
What are you talking about? |
|
The CDC recommends indoor masking for everyone in places of significant or high community transmission. That threshold works out to about 50 cases/day in DC, a threshold that we are still well above.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html I don't see why the city going by CDC guidelines is controversial. |
