| I’d need to travel 2 hours to visit SGF for the 7 week ultrasound. The other option is see my OB. Is there any advantage to having SGF do the ultrasound? |
| OB’s ultrasound probably isn’t strong enough. |
| No difference. Not even sure why you need one at 7 weeks. Do not travel 2 hours for one. |
What is this even based on? |
| Do the 7 week with your OB and if something sketchy is found travel for the follow up. The only advantage I can think of the clinic is that they have more experience with IVF pregnancies, but that shouldn't matter most of the time. |
It’s to check for the heart beat. The results are pretty important to me. If there is a heartbeat, I’ll need to order an extra $1k in meds. It also determines if I need to enroll during open season is a more expensive insurance policy that covers IVF. Also seeing/hearing a heartbeat increases the chances dramatically of a viable pregnancy which is a huge deal to a woman who just went through ivf. |
The time to schedule a heartbeat for viability is 9 weeks. A heartbeat seen after 8.5 weeks means the probability of a miscarriage plummets. There’s something about making it past 8.5 weeks. If you can get one then, do that as well. Good Luck. |
You clearly didn’t have infertility. I would go to the RE Op. most OBs won’t even see you until 8 weeks. The Re will know what meds you need to order. Did you not have one at 6 weeks? |
This is incorrect. Both my OB and SGF perform a heartbeat scan at 6-7 weeks for a reason. Not at 9 weeks. |
| I think you are getting some responses from people who did not actually go through ivf. You should ignore them. Ask your ob if they are able to do a transvaginal ultrasound, because that will give you the information you need. A normal over the stomach ultrasound will probably not be strong enough at 7 weeks. Best of luck to you. |
My OB will see me at 7 weeks. My OB offered a scan at 7 weeks. SG said 6-7 weeks, which is when I’d have the scan. I’m now 5 weeks. |
This is helpful thanks! |
The real reason is that IVF pregnancies are more likely to be ectopic. They don't routinely do scans this early in spontaneous pregnancies. I saw heartbeats at 6.5 and 7 weeks for my two IVF pregnancies |
| Word of advice from a covid era mom who gave birth in 2020: being pregnant during covid is stressful. Lower your stress levels where you can. I would take the offer from your OB. |
| I did my 6 week transvaginal US at SGF to confirm pregnancy and that it wasn’t ectopic. My OB wouldn’t see me that early. I would not drive 2 hours if your OB can do this. |
