Nurturing Preschool Recommendations

Looking for a nurturing preschool (thats the only requirement for us), where teachers are kind and where kids really loved it (based on your experience). My kid is 3. Location is not an issue, as we are moving soon, and can move close to the school once we decide on one.
Please provide recommendations only if you have or have had your kid at the school.

You are going to move solely for access to a preschool? I mean this in the most helpful way, but I'd rethink that. There are hundreds of phenomenal preschools all over NoVA (and likely Maryland too--DC has free PK at that age, so probably less in the city).

Pick your location based on commute, housing affordability, and if you're going to be here longer than 2 years, access to good elementary and beyond.

Most montessori schools would fit this.

We have been very, very happy with Spring Bilingual Montessori in Kensington. But I would never move for a *preschool*.

Thanks!! We are not moving for preschool, we are moving anyways, and can do it close to the school as we are flexible ok location.

Waldorf schools are incredibly nurturing for young kids and incorporate lots of outside time if that’s important to you. In Alexandria, there’s Potomac Crescent Waldorf School and in Silver Spring there’s Acorn Hill. Finally, in Bethesda is Washington Waldorf School, a larger pre-k to 12th program.

I also read that as willing to move somewhere just for the preschool. Which is bananas.

Preschool is two years long. Moving for preschool, when the are good options everywhere, is kind of nuts.

My tip is just ask each school how long their staff have been there, either on average or for your specific age group. Places with good retention will offer this info up immediately. And places with teachers who have been there 10 years (or even 5) tends to be a really good indicator of a nurturing environment.
