Looking ahead to the 2022 Season, what are the the preseason rankings?
Below is a quote from the end of the 2021 season: "SSSAS graduates 17 seniors with 9 of them starting. Stone Ridge graduates 6 with all of them starting. Ireton graduates 7 but only 2 or 3 starting. All three are graduating their starting goalies and their starting draw. Good Counsel is graduating all three of its goalies and its top attack and midfield, but has a lot of field experience returning in the rest of the class. What is returning at Visi or FH? PVI, SJC? |

FH is going to be in bad shape but they’ve never been a power house anyway moving between A and AA for years
In addition those who graduated, they lost their coach and two of the girls who as ‘22 seniors would have been team leaders - but transferred to SSSAS. They do have a good jr goalie. Visi will also be basically starting over - lost a big group of starting players to graduation and has no coach. They have seniors committed to Denver (A) and W&L (M) and a handful of uncommitted seniors who are good players and a few standout juniors including a Michigan committ (D). That’s about it. It might be a down year across the board for the usual powerhouse teams. Will probably see more parity at ISL AA this year than in past. SR may break out as top team in area for first time. Hard to see any of the DMV teams making the national rankings. |
| I think SSSAS has at least 8 D1 and 3 D3 commits at this point; they lost a lot of seniors but should still have a strong presence. |

GC graduated a lot but still their leading scorer and some starting attackers and defenders and have 2 stud 24 midfielders that technically didn't start but were key contributors with 1 being arguably their best player.
PVI graduated their best overall player and their goalie, as well as a few other starters. 23s are decent (most are on Pride Black) and definitely have talent but struggled vs tough competition last year. They were up 2 players on GC for an extended period of time in the 2nd half of that game and GC actually extended their lead. BI will be an interesting case as they too graduated all of 3 their goalies and their best overall player and a few key attackers on top of now having new coach. They have some young talent but not sure on depth? SJC graduated only 1 senior but just don't have any real depth. HC just continues to tumble, which is unfortunate. WCAC should still be GC then BI and PVI. |
Maybe 8 counting the ‘23s? There are only 4 seniors going to D1s and none are big scorers - 1 mid (best of these) and 3 Ds. D3s are a goalie, a D and 1 Attacker. Their senior class isn’t loaded like in past years. Junior class isn’t either. Plus not much Varsity experience since they mostly play the starters and last year that line-up was heavy with ‘21s. |
| Couple of the AA ISL schools that are usually in mid to lower end of bracket, like Holy Child, Holton and Bullis have potential to do well this year with a decent set of strong 22s and 23s. |
| I imagine that the top ISL teams will continue to be better than the WCAC teams. Last year, SR crushed a senior dominated GC team. Saints and Visi were better than the top WCAC teams as well. Most schools lost many seniors, but the top of the ISL looks stronger. |
| They may not be as strong as in the past but Saints will most likely hang another banner this year in the ISL. |
| Agreed. The middie is overrated but there is some new firepower coming in on attack to help on the scoring front. They are not as showy but a very solid group of starters this year. |
Don’t agree on the SSSAS middie and it’s doubtful the FH girls will make that big an impact. One will be just be coming off a year long injury/surgery and the other is a solid player but not a play-maker. Saints will struggle this year to stay in contention. |

2021 Final National Rankings:
#9 SR #10 Visi #11 SSSAS #18 GC Also considered: BI |
| until VISI gets a coach in place... hard to really gauge how they will be this Spring. |
| Also questionable how Visi got that ranking last year after playing just 5 games, 2 of which were solid losses to SR. |
| Overrated! |
| Last years rankings for SSSAS, Visi and GC are completely irrelevant as the players who got them there are gone. SR still has some solid players who started last year but still no where near level of talent as 2021s. |
