Is there a connection between parent's involvement in PTO during 2nd grade and children who are placed in principal supported AAP placement? I have a feeling that it is happening at Crossfield Elementary. |
Perhaps it’s correlation rather than causation. |
There “should” be no connection. If it’s happening at your school, that is your principal. |
Teachers write GBRS and a teacher liking you may help. Of course, they may also be turned off by someone obviously angling for better GBRS |
I don't think this is the case at our center. |
I imagine that parents who have the time and means to spend a lot of time supporting the PTA also have the time and means to get extra academic support for their children.
So, no, it's not "oh the PTA moms get preferential treatment", it's just that the PTA moms have the time and money to spend getting tutoring, mathnasium, Beast Academy, etc., plus have the time to put together a really nice package of stuff for their kids. |
I don't think there is a connection. I know alot of PTA moms whose kids are not AAP. |
+ 1 |
Same. |
Centers don't have Principal Placement so there would be less of a connection. I believe the bigger concern is at schools with Principal Placements, so the Local Level IV. The concern is that parents who are active in the PTA might have better connections with Teachers and the Principal and that could influence their kids placement in the LLIV program if the child was not selected by the Central Committee. |
As all schools will soon have a Local Level IV class and as center schools go away, this issue will become more contentious. Politics or the perception of politics in grade schools will be more and more important. And problematic. |
They definitely do it's just not widely advertised or as obvious. And doesn't happen every grade/year but definitely happens. |
That concern is legit and it's absolutely true that there is a correlation between PTA and AAP. |
PTA board always has kids in AAP- |
+1 And I am not a PTA mom |
