Advice, personal stories, reassurance?
Her dad took her and her brothers there. Said he looked away 5-10 seconds to help the older ones and 2yo had it in her mouth when he turned to her. I am a mess. This has never happened in six years of being parents. I am terrified and feel like a horrible parent even though I wasn't there. He left immediately. Wiped her mouth out with a wipe in the car and had her take a sip of water. She still nurses a few times a day which could help but is there anything else I can do? |
Go get yourself a drink.
She will be absolutely fine. Nothing to worry about.
This is a complete non-event. Kids put gross things in their mouths sometimes. Surprised you got this far through parenting without something worse. Heck, I had to call poison control last week cause my toddler ate a bunch of Desitin (he’s fine).
He wiped the inside of her mouth with a wipe? No way.
You are both overreacting. No big deal at all. This is a non-event. Wow

My kiddo put a random straw in his mouth once and was totally fine.
I would try not to worry. What are the chances the owner of the bottle was sick, was in the contagious phase of illness, but the illness is transmissible through saliva, and sifficient bacteria/viral load was still present by the time your toddler put it in her mouth? Let say all those conditions are good met— what further are the chances that this illness isn’t one your child hasn’t already had or wouldn’t be expected to just get in the normal course of childhood? Chances seem extremely low that anything will happen as result, let alone anything serious. Also, kiddos will be putting stuff in their mouth all the time. Or touching gross things (like doorknobs, and sidewalks and trash cans) and then putting their hands in their nose and mouth. It’s just life! No need to blame yourself or worry. |
I don't understand what you think will happen?
Thank you all 😅 I definitely have general anxiety and health specific anxiety as well so I was hoping I was overreacting. Still scary not knowing so I appreciate your comments and reassurance!
He said it was open which made it worse. I don't know.
Tell your husband to keep those types of anecdotes to himself next time.
You've been a parent for 6 years? Hard to believe your baby, toddler or preschooler has NEVER swapped germs with another child. They never attended daycare, preschool, even group playdates?
You're fine, OP. Kids are disgusting.
+1 Rookie mistake by DH. |
I guarantee she's eaten floor food before and so have your boys. This is not something to stress over.
