Shooting in Georgetown October 20

Anonymous
Off-duty cop stopped an attempted armed carjacking. One suspect still on the loose.

Also, a friendly reminder that you should NEVER get your news from The Washington Post when it comes to local crime. Cops gave a detailed description of the perp in a press conference ("black male, with a black top with white reflective lettering, dark pants and white shoes.")

This is what The Washington Post reported: "Officials said they are looking for another man and gave only a vague description of him."

Just a total dereliction of journalistic duty to refuse to report information about a suspect who poses a danger to the public.

The description is vague.

It’s not just wapo. It’s every outlet. Whether it’s wapo banning comments on crime updates like this, or this forum deleting any thread that might discuss unpalatable issues (or bottom line potentially affect ad revenue from bad press), or dcist banning comments.

The bottom line is that there is a massive movement to squelch commentary that borders on racism, which is good. However, it also probably drives the discussion underground. If you can’t talk openly discuss pattens and statistics, who knows.

Why is a shooting in Georgetown news? There are shootings all the time all over the city.

I know the answer, but OP might need to think on that.

I get your point, but police-involved shootings make news every time.

The point is they had enough information to share at least one data point. That it was a male, for example? And a description of the clothing he was wearing? Given that a violent perp was running around a residential neighborhood last night, even a little bit of info helps.

This. It’s very vague and could watch hundreds of innocent men.

I can see both sides’ argument here.
What I really want is ban guns.

Shorter OP: I'm mad because they Post didn't identify the perp by his race.

Yeah, that’ll never happen. Never. The Supreme Court is about to allow fking conceal carry everywhere soon. This country simply loves its guns more than it’s children.

What’s the problem with that?

What would that have added for you?

They are all reported on and many are discussed here. Additionally it's "news" because the police stopped a crime, by shooting, and will not doubt now have to defend themselves for that.

Um, maybe identifying info to help identify the suspect? This reminds me of when I lived in NY (moved here a few years ago). The papers stopped identifying criminals beyond clothing so virtually every description was “male in jeans and a Yankees hat.” That’s half the city.
