Given the latest discussion on yoga, could someone recommend the best classes for stretching (and ideally near Dupont)? Pilates or barre might be fine too but I'm really looking to stretch first before going back to those because my tendons need a LOT of work. I used to be able to do splits without any problems and now when my legs are at a 90 degree angle I feel a good stretch. Eek. I'm 43, in decent shape otherwise (I lift and do cardio twice a week). TIA!

Anyone?
If not classes, then at least a good video series or app? |
| Maryland Youth Ballet has adult drop-in stretch classes, and I think the virtual classes over the next week are free. Could try that. |
That sounds perfect! Thanks. |
| I like Adriene and Ellen Barrett if you want online. I heard Barre3 was doing online too. |
Long-time yoga instructor here…I LOVE barre3 online. But there is very little stretching; usually only the last few minutes of class. |
| YouTube is your friend. Million stretching programs. |
| Hi OP. I’m a personal trainer and a yoga teacher. For deep, long stretching Yin Yoga is great. It’s typically very slow paced. The goal is to get into the connective tissues and facia to help lengthen and strengthen muscle. Hot yoga can help muscles relax and stretch, but it needs to be done very carefully with plenty of time for warm up. It’s easy to push too far in a hot class. Any vinyasa class should include stretching as well. To really see a difference in flexibility, stretches need to be held for at least 30 seconds. |
| Peloton app has stretching classes. |
+1 came here to suggest this. Their app is actually amazing |
Yup. After 3+ years on the bike, I finally started taking advantage of the strength and stretch classes a couple of months ago, and they’re really good. They also have yoga, including slow/easy classes. |
| I think the key is stretching regularly. Find a 10 minute stretching routine and do it every day- after workouts or at night. |
