Reason being that clubs who were ranked lower than teams they played and beat them, received bonus points. A team who was ranked higher than other teams they played and won, received no bonus points. So if the winner of the tournament played all 4 games and received the total winners points of let’s say 4 points. But because they were ranked higher than all the other teams they beat, received no bonus points. Now the second place team received a total of 3 points for the tournament, but they were ranked lower than two of the teams they beat and received a bonus point for each win, they end up with a total of 5 points for the tournament. |
| Got Soccer points and rankings are utterly meaningless, and anyone that spends a second worrying about them is a fool. |
Don't you know that according to this forum NOTHING matters except Div. 1 college players and potential pros.
This is from the Arlington/DCU thread: "Its pointless unless at least 1 member of that Arlington team makes it to the pros. Unless either team produces a pro from that game its a complete wash." I don't think it was sarcasm. I agree that GotSoccer points are a little silly, but don't let the forum get you down. Plus, it looks like the points for winning the flight just haven't been added in yet. I'm sure your squad will end up with more total points from the tourney than the runner up. |
Sorry, reread the initial post. I'm sure the flight winner will end up with more total than the runner-up. |
They will get points for being a champion. Or they should. Maybe it hasn’t been calculated yet |
|
Just hasn’t been added yet. Relax.
But gotsoccer rankings don’t mean much overall. |
| I really can’t understand why parents are over obsessed with these rankings. These rankings don’t help your DC to become a better player, get recruited for college or anythingelse. |
Here’s the link for how flight values and point awards are determined. 20% of a team’s current GotSoccer points are deducted when determining the amount of points awarded. So if the flight value was 500 points, but a team has 2,000 GotSoccer points, that team would only earn 100 points (500 less 20% of 2,000). A team winning with 100 Gotsoccer points would be awarded 480. As others have stated, GotSoccer doesn’t mean much in the long run as it only looks at tournaments played in from a ranking standpoint, but is used for flighting purposes for tournaments. https://gotsoccer.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005434227-How-are-flight-values-calculated-for-rankings- |
Boy there are some foolish parents in this area. There are parents at some clubs OBESSED with these rankings and are absolutely sure that they are the definitive source on who is the best team/club. Certain clubs use it as their unofficial marketing material
|
| And I don't think OP is a fool. I think he/she is just frickin curious. Noone on here said GotSoccer was worth anything. Noone! But yet, people like to come on here and try like they are enlightening people with their stupid posts about how GotSoccer is meaningless. It doesn't get you into college. etc. Go away. You aren't providing any new content. We know. With that said, thank you to whoever for explaining how those points are calculated. |
Actually I am sort of worried of the type of stupid parenting this region and society is developing. Gosh! |
Please explain why someone would care about the points, as the OP is stating. And no, not everyone knows the ins and outs of gotsoccer rankings. Like how there are zero em points given to ecnl teams for league play games, league finishes, and wins at ecnl showcases Where as on the other hand, edp teams gets 200 points for beating higher ranked teams, points for every edp league games win, points for edp tourney placements, and thousands of points for finishing even 3rd place in final league standings. It’s a crappy platform to compare teams equally. Youth soccer rankings take into account every single game, and their formula is better as well. |
Yes, I think it is a timing/calculation delay. If you follow the link the winner got zero points. They will probably update it in a day or two. |
| Gotsoccer places too much emphasis on tournament wins. youthsoccer is biased in that it overwieghts a team with ecnl or ga wins. Look at girls u15. Top 3 teams in md are all non ecnl teams. Not fair. Alternatively those top 3 teams are way down the youth soccer rankings. also not fair. Coppermine u15 for instance is a very strong team. Are they number 3 in the country according to gotsoccer?no. They also arent ranked as high as thy should be in youth soccer. |
