| And it makes me SO IRATE! They are so little and why the hell have we not done ANYTHING on this issue since Sandy Hook? Why is our country so broken that my kindergartner knows what a lockdown drill is? It makes me so upset. |
| Meh, normal. Welcome to the real world. |
I knew it was a mistake posting here. I am so sorry that you think it’s normal to have kindergarteners do lockdown drills, but it’s not. This is preventable. |
|
Yup, I hate that my child has to do this. That being said, there is a shooting in school every few weeks. Because we don't care as a society, no one needs to take any action.
If 20+ 6 year olds can be murdered in cold blood without any action, we can assume this is how things will be from now on. |
Yes, it is very normal. Better to teach the kids vs. not know. People are more about fighting about masks then the actual physical safety in the schools. This is your new normal now. It happens a few times a year. |
Please stop condescending to me. I have two older kids who went through this, too. You are brainwashed if you think it’s normal. The level of gun violence is not normal. |
Op, with the way things are right now It's better for kids to know what to do. |
+2 OP, I see you have a kindergartener. Kids have been doing this for many years now. The first time my daughter did it she was in the 1st grade. She is in 8th grade now. I agree it’s an upsetting concept, but this is the world we live in. You will see many other things that irritate you, so get ready! |
Then you should know this is normal. Sad, but normal. |
You're right, it's not normal. The homicide rate is about half of what it was in the early 90's. You should be celebrating! |
|
1. I am FOR preparing small children for the real world.
2. I agree with you that the US has a mind blowing problem with guns. Why on earth does anyone think it’s right to authorize civilian ownership? No other wealthy nation does this, and they don’t have anywhere near the US mortality rate due to firearms. The Constitution does not protect private individuals’ right to own weapons. |
It sure does. |
| I HATE that it's something they need to do here. That said, my kids had lockdown drills even in daycare. When there was a gun incident at an office building a couple miles away they locked down. |
|
Makes me sad every time.
Posters who shrug their shoulders about it come in a close second. |
| My parents had nuclear bomb drills. We practice fire drills too. I'm all for making guns illegal but I don't get upset about lockdown drills. |
