Words you won't allow

What are some words you weren't allowed to say growing up? What are words you won't allow your kids to say? Are curse words ok? How old are your kids? Will it change based on their age? Growing up my parents were really strict we couldn't even say stuff like sucks, crap, freaking, hate (even saying I hate a food), nevermind actual cursing.

My mother doesn’t swear at all and would not tolerate anyone ever swearing at/about another human being in our house. (My father swore but only at inanimate objects which she could live with.)

Honestly, I think words like piss and suck are ruder than most of the curse words. We don’t say them in this house.

We were not allowed to say: "f#ck" , "f##got" , "n" word. We watched a lot of tv and heard these words often. My dad was a very fun parent, but he would get pretty upset if we said any of these.

My kids ( and any adults and/or kids in our house) are not allowed to say: "stupid" and "of course". We are not yet worried about the f words or the n word because they don't really hear them(we watched all kinds of movies as kids - they don't.)

Cursing is fine, assuming they use it in an appropriate situation (not at school or with grandparents). Name calling (directly or indirectly, like calling someone stupid) is forbidden. Hate is only to be used in the rarest of circumstances.

Of course? What's wrong with that?

We don’t let our kids swear, say things like “frick” or “piss” or even “god.” It is solely because we have relatives who are really uptight about it and we just don’t want them getting into the habit of saying those words. We don’t let DD (age 12) say the F word in texts because we don’t want to look like the bad parents if DD’s friend’s parents check the messages.

Our kids know exactly how arbitrary these words are and the history of why certain words are taboo. They know it’s not about ethics, it just makes life simpler to not swear.

What's wrong with gay? (Unless in the context of "that's so gay.")

In our house: b*tch, c*nt, ho. I didn't even have to enforce that--my daughter was brutal when her brother came home with those words.

Growing up, I remember being corrected for retard and bastard.

I very distinctly remember sitting in the living room, playing Nintendo with my BFF and both of us shouting, "That sucks!" whenever we died in the game. My BFF's family was super conservative and religious, and my mom say like, "You need to stop saying that. BFF's parents are going to be so mad at me." LOL
