Are big family portraits on the wall tacky?

Anonymous
Not small pictures around the house, but a large 16x20 or 20x30 portrait hanging on the wall. Is this tacky? Very popular among flyover MC but what about UMC/UC?

Maybe next size down? I know professional photographers prefer you buy big! $$$$

In my opinion, yes. But many will disagree and it’s your house, so do what you want.

For sure, but I also love looking at them at people’s houses.

I wouldn't do it.

Bet this is good for the kids. I know people who were hurt their parents had no pics of them around the house.

I have a $200 print credit with a photo studio. I can use it on four $50 5x7 prints or one 16x20 /20x30 print. The 5x7 print feels so ridiculously overpriced, feels like I would get more bang for my buck if I got the bigger one. But I have never had such a large portrait on my wall before!

You will tire of it - get the option with more poses/photos.

We have a big family painting on our wall and love it. When we commissioned out, the artist wasn't well known at all. Somehow the abstraction makes it look nicer. I couldn't stand a photo to me staring back.

Yes. People who buy Mccraftsman houses love this.

If you call anything associated with the middle class tacky, then sure, but I don’t think they are. I do think it shows a lack of design sense but that to me doesn’t translate to tacky.

Yes, it's tacky. We do have family pictures in our kids' rooms because they like to have them in there, and on a gallery wall in a hallway leading to our bedrooms (I know someone is going to say this is tacky but it looks nice). There are appropriate places for them! Would never put a large one in a living space though.

Traditional etiquette states there are no pictures of family in public rooms of the house. I don't think it's a class thing that much though, I have seen a lot of tacky rich people with huge portraits on the walls.

Our walls are full of family photos. When I am an old lady, I will be looking at all our family photos.

We are UMC, well educated and have a seven figure income. I think every home we have ever been in has some photos of the family around the house.

Who cares? So bizarre.
