do you give collagen to your kids for protein?

I take Vital Proteins daily and wondering if it's safe for kids. My kids need an extra protein boost anywhere possible and wondering if i can add it to their smoothies or oatmeal. thanks.

Um what? I give them food. Why do your kids need extra protein they can’t get from food?

Are your kids vegetarian?

because it's hard for them to eat much protein in the morning, and it would be an easy way to get it in.

I am not sure why it is hard to feed your kids protein in the morning. They don't want to eat or you don't want to cook it? Frankly there is no rule that kids must have protein in the morning either.

I don't but if your kids are not allergic to almonds you could add some almond flour to pancake or waffles for extra protein. For waffles, I do half almond flour and half wheat flour and you may need to add an extra egg and more baking powder. My kids also eat oatmeal for breakfast, I stir in 1 TBSP of almond butter in it for extra protein.

I know they make something like this for kids because I’ve seen it on Amazon. I would not give it my kids because they are vegetarians and the collagen stuff is not vegetarian, so I haven’t looked into it more than to know a kid version exists.

I did when she wouldn’t eat much. Slipped a few tablespoons into her morning smoothie.

I wouldn’t do that. Make them some eggs! Kids need a lot of things, it’s the complex of how it fits together that helps growth.

I'm not talking about REPLACING food with the collagen, people, jeez.
There are very few proteins my kids will eat in the morning (they hate eggs, yogurt, etc) and adding collagen to smoothies would be a helpful way to get some protein into them. Just curious if others have done or do the same.

I've added a little bit of collagen to my DS's smoothie in the morning. He didn't particularly love the flavor + there aren't a lot of calories in collagen powder.

If your kids won't eat any breakfast protein, I could see doing it, but make sure you're using a high quality brand. On the other hand, kids don't need breakfast food for breakfast. Sometimes DS won't eat an egg but he'll eat leftover pasta ragu.

A good way for kids to get collagen protein is bone broth. My DS likes bone broth and will eat it with ramen noodles as a snack.

Protein comes from a lot of places. Eggs can be in pancakes. Milk and yogurt are interchangeable protein wise. You can do sausage, bacon, even a chicken tender or two. There are grains rich in protein. You’ll make her a pickier eater if you put invisible fake stuff in her food.

Humans (and children) do not need protein at every meal. If they are eating protein for lunch and/or dinner, that is sufficient. In fact, the nutrient that is often lacking in children, is not protein but iron. Foods high in iron are leafy greens, which many children don't like.

Just put yogurt in the smoothie.

Collagen is not a complete protein and says right on the container it is NOT a source of dietary protein. Please don't give it to your kids thinking you are boosting their protein, you aren't.

If you want to give them a protein boost, get a whey protein powder and mix it into pancakes, smoothies, etc. I like Tara's organic unflavored whey protein.
