| We are in Md. Are JMU and ECU kinda the same type of school just in different states? Does it make sense what I’m asking? Are they on the same level? Daughter is interested in marketing, international business, Asian studies — maybe. |
| JMU > ECU for academic quality. The North Carolina equivalent of JMU would probably be Appalachian State |
I agree with PP. ECU is below a number of other NC publics, not just UNC and State. App State, UNCW, UNCA, and UNCC are superior to ECU academically. |
| I grew up in the vicinity of ECU and do not have a high opinion of it. It is a place you go if you want to acquire a liver disease, but for academics? Not so much. Just within the state of North Carolina I can think of at least 5 schools I would much rather my child go to. I suppose they are similar in the sense that both tend to attract outgoing, social students but academically and reputation wise I think JMU is in a totally different tier. |
This is correct. Both Harrisonburg and Boone also are waaaay nicer than Greenville. |
| Thanks so much for the responses. Any thoughts on what would be comparable to JMU in Pennsylvania? |
Pitt would be a couple notches up. West Chester and Bloomsburg are a notch below and more on par with ECU. Having a hard time thinking of an equivalent. |
Agreed, I don't think there is one. Temple is probably equivalent in terms of admissions difficulty, but very different setting and vibe. Honestly, closest thing would probably be Penn State. |
I think Penn State is more on VT's level and JMU is slightly less competitive. I could see similar students at JMU and ECU, kids who are more social than academic and couldn't get into the "first tier" state schools. Nothing wrong with that; I have a kid like that myself. |
Where is UNCG in this ranking? |
| JMU. Better outcome. |
Agree with Penn State. West Chester is good and getting better ... I'd put that below Penn State but well above Bloomsburg. |
UNCG > ECU |
I don't think there is one. Unless you count Delaware, which is pretty spot-on. |
What about Bucknell? |
