Don't they normally have these every year?

DC residents only too. You forgot that part.

I assume there is no waitlist, s you wouldn't have to be a DC resident at this point. You can apply and enroll as a non-resident, tuition paying student.

The school posting itself sent to parents specifically mentioned the line “DC residents only”

Same thing is happening at Capital City Public Charter. And ITS and Mundo. All these formerly hard to get into charters are rushing to fill their spots. Is it really possible that so many charter families left DC during the pandemic?

I think it totally is possible. I know three families from my DD's grade level at our HRCS that moved far away and one that moved to upper NW.

Same. I know people in both of those scenarios (moved out of DC and moved to NW), as well as folks who went private.

One of my kids (mid-elementary) had three friends move to other parts of the country, one to DMV suburbs, and one go to inbound DCPS because older sibling got into BASIS or Latin and they didn't want two long-ish school commutes in different directions (and the younger sibling will now have preference for a middle school that feeds to a HS so even less reason to stay).

Pre-school enrollment is seriously low as families feel more stability staying in childcare centers. It's surprising to see so many elementary grades open.

As of last week, DCPS was 4,000 short on projected enrollment, charters were 4,500 short.

What I don't understand is why they were projecting 98k enrollment combined when 2019-20 enrollment was 92.5k. There is no way I would be projecting an increase for this school year compared to 2 years ago.

No they normally have long waitlists

Lee has also recently moved away from focusing on the basics such as math and reading. In addition to COVID, that may be another reason there's less demand.

They also recently sent a survey asking parents about their religion. Wasn't expecting that from a public school.

Just because you don’t like their assessment of the situation? Some families are looking for a heavy ABAR emphasis. Great! Some aren’t and there are other Montessori programs close by that seem to perform better on math and reading.
