Anyone currently at GW Fertility Clinic?

Anonymous
We were with GW a few years back and found them caring, compassionate, meticulous, and scientifically rigorous. We are contemplating returning there, but it seems all the old doctors we previously saw regularly are gone (or going) - Comstock, Lawlani, Humm - and the only one remaining is Frankfurter (who we did like but as they worked as a team it changes the dynamic) (and a new doctor from what we understand). As such, we are curious if perhaps we should explore another clinic, but first looking if anyone currently there has any insight on how the clinic is handling all these changes (appointment delays, feeling rushed, etc.).

I'm not there now, but I went to GW when it was only dr. F (before the other doctors mentioned started). It was great. Dr. F is an amazing person. I have no idea what it's ike now, but I never felt rushed.

OP here. Thank you PP. Definitely a fan of Dr. F - found him patient and liked his clear and direct, but kind, manner - his explanations of the science research and reasoning behind certain steps and protocols were particularly impressive.

I'm a current patient. Is Humm leaving?! I just had an appointment with her on Monday. I haven't had any experience with appointment delays or feeling rushed, but my nurse has not been as communicative/available recently.

She is leaving in November, sadly! Does anyone know where she is going?

I'm a current patient working with Dr Humm, but she is leaving in December-ish for Shady Grove (!!!) and not taking new patients. I don't think she is allowed to say that, but one of the OBs told me. I have also had appointments with Dr. F and really liked him even though I am fairly biased towards female Drs. I have been really happy with my treatment at GW. I feel like I am usually the only patient in the office. I never have to wait very long, and I don't feel rushed. I was a bit luke-warm on the nurse at first, but now she is very responsive. I have mentioned here before that I really like that they don't have a profit motive in their approach. My issue is fairly rare and the Drs could easily have pushed me into expensive treatments but they have held a line that these treatments won't be helpful and I am ultimately very happy with my outcome (though no take home baby yet). I also really like having a RE/ OBGYN team that communicates and can coordinate care. I will add that I have not been treated at GW by the RE team generally- I am very much Dr. Humm's patient. I have had Dr. F a few times I think mostly because of the COVID schedules or if they really need to get me in and Humm isn't in the clinic that day, but I am not receiving IVF where there are so many closely scheduled appointments, so that may be different depending on your treatment. If I continue to need an RE after Dr. Humm leaves my current plan is to stay at GW and swap to Dr. F.

OP here again. Thank you all for your responses. Much food for thought in decision making. We very much liked Dr. F when we were there last so are inclined to stay despite the changes - at least so far, based on the comments, it seems likely that as long as Dr. F is there the spirit of the clinic will stay the same. All the best wishes to everyone here.

I'm also a patient at GW with Dr. F. Dr. Humm did my embryo transfer last week. I love when she does the procedures as she explains everything so thoroughly. Sad to see her go, especially to Shady Grove. I'll still continue at GW as I like the collaborative nature of the program. My nurse is always so responsive.

PP, OP here - thank you for your thoughts as well. That was definitely one of the things I liked about Dr. Humm as well - that she talked you through everything almost like a co-equal partner in every step, not a subordinate who should just be informed of the end result (some doctors do this - as if the patient is just a body they are working on and then all done- albeit some might like that as too much information can make people nervous, but I at least like knowing what’s going on). Good luck with your transfer and best wishes for a happy result!!!!!!!

This makes me sad- Dr. Humm helped me with 4 pregnancies: 2 of which have resulted in my beautiful children. She and Dr. Frankfurter made a great team.

Does anyone know which SGF location Dr. Humm is at? Really missing her as the new GW doctor has zero communication skills.

She's at Rockville but may not have started yet.

Did Lalwani leave too? Who’s the new doctor?

Lalwani left within the last year or two also. They were one of the only clinics in the DMV that would think outside the box for poor responders, so it's a shame to see them take that knowledge and willingness to try new things with them. Not sure where Lalwani went (Comstock went to the FDA), but I doubt Humm will be able to be as creative at SGF as she was at GWU.

Dr. Lalwani moved to NJ and took a job at a pharmaceutical company working with fertility meds. Dr. lalwani was my doctor and I was able to ask her while preparing for my 2nd FET.
