Will my insurance go up from comprehensive claim?

Anonymous
Switched to Geico a little over a year ago after we were dropped from State Farm when my husband had two small at fault accidents within a 3 year period.

I recently hit a wild animal while driving (different car, different driver than the two accidents we came to Geico with).
The repair estimate is 2k. Our comprehensive deductible is $50, so would like to use it if possible.

Am I at risk of our rates going up, or even worse being dropped if I file a comprehensive claim with my husbands two at fault accidents still on our history?

i'm pretty sure if your car is in motion it's considered a collision claim.

Google says it's comprehensive and that it will raise your rates. Your options are to either pay the full $2,000 out of pocket for the repair and not report it to insurance or make the insurance claim, pay $50 out of pocket, and pay higher rates.

2k is a tough number. If it was a a few hundred dollars it would definitely make sense to pay it yourself. If it was 5k it would be obvious you should file with insurance. 2k is a number that's difficult to decide on. I would probably file the claim because it's unlikely that your rate will go up enough for the next few years to cover the full 2k cost of repairs (well, $1,950).

Wrong. Hitting an animal is comprehensive.

OP your rates “may” go up but it’s much less likely under a comprehensive claim, vs. collision. Now if you had 5 comprehensive claims in a year, then sure your rates will rise. But for 1 comp claim it’s not for certain. I’d file the insurance and also increase my comprehensive deductible, in case there’s an accident in the future.

In theory, a single comprehensive claim should have no effect on your rates. Multiple comprehensive claims may raise questions.

My recent experience was - hit a moving object (deer) is comprehensive, hit a stationary object (ladder) is collision. Travelers paid out my collision accident but declared it an at fault accident and jacked up my rates.

Probably moving to Progressive but still researching.
