| Just came on suddenly last week. I have a neuro consult but not for three weeks. ENT appointment next week. Went to urgent care Sunday and they gave me meclizine but it's not really doing anything so far. Is there anything I can do at home to relieve this and get any hearing back? I have, over the course of four days, lost all hearing in one ear. And the tinnitus goes from pulsing/heartbeat whooshing sounds, to full on ringing, to dit-dit-dit-dit-dit like a mini jackhammer, to buzzing. I think I'm going to go insane. |
| Call a different ENT and say it is urgent. |
|
Warm microwavable pack on ear. Could also try inhaling some steam. See if either makes a difference after a couple of treatments.
Glad you have an ENT appointment soon. Did the urgent care give you antibiotics for a potential ear infection? |
|
And seconding the call too. Tell them you can come anytime they have a slot.
One of my friends lost hearing from an ear infection recently, so go as soon as you can. |
The neurologist has me on the "in case anyone cancels" list. The urgent care doctor didn't see infection. I think I'll keep trying to get in somewhere... |
| Steroids |
| I think sudden hearing loss an emergency and treatment should be started asap to get hearing back. I am not a doc, but that's what i have heard. |
| Menuieres disease or otosclorosis |
| look into vestibular neuritis. i had extreme vertigo and nausea that was severe for about two weeks (like couldn't get out of bed at all, couldn't even look at my phone or watch TV). even after that 2 week period i didn't fully recover until several months later until after i had vestibular physical therapy. i still don't understand what caused it but i just woke up with the world spinning one day. i'm not the type to go to the dr. but we thought i had a brain tumor, even riding in the car to the appointments (near, ENT, etc.) was miserable. anyway, recommended early treatment is steroids, so insist on getting in now. |
| Get am mri |
| Did you recently get covid vaccine. I got a lot of whooshing and fullness after 2nd shot. Lasted few months. |
+1 They'll fit you in. Go tomorrow. |
| This is a symptom of COVID. |
+10000000000 I waited until I could get an appointment, which was 6 weeks. I am now deaf in one ear. The doctor said “you should have come in sooner” and I nearly killed him as that was the earliest one I could get. Tell me again why the Canadian system is worse? |
Yes, call teledoc, get prednisone asap till you can see ENT. 2nd shot gave me tinnitus and some hearing loss for 3-4 months |
