What do you do for childcare over winter break? Is extended day closed? One of us can take some leave (but not enough to cover two weeks, the other has none. We don’t go away for the holiday and do not have family help. How are you putting together care? |
There are often winter break camps that you can enroll in |
Camp. There are many offered. |
Camps through SACC at school or at the Fairfax Rec Center. Assuming things are back to pre-COVID normal. |
This is the non-FCPS forum. |
Right. New to it all. Where do you find them? We are in Arlington. |
Thank you. That’s what I suspected. Is this through the county or private businesses? It’s a bit overwhelming when I do a general search, plus finding mainly summer info. |
Where do you live? |
Arlington right? Boy or girl? Child’s interests? |
Encore Stage offers camp on each of the days Dec 20-23. They serve ages K-5th. We've had a good experience at their camps. |
I believe Everwonder also does some break camps. You can just google your city+winter break camps and will come up with some |
Pentagon MMA does camps that are a ton of fun. I have seen a handful of others, but I know many kindergarteners who loved camp there. |
Also, Arlington Parks and Rec offers camps: https://parks.arlingtonva.us/break-camps/ |
Yes camps. But in the past there's been many day-of camps etc, but they seem to be lacking. I didn't see any available for the days off around labor day and today. So there are less available now than there was pre-covid. I suspect once kids can get the vaccine, this will pick up again.
There are several MMA studios that often do camps. Also, Empower Kids is run by a local Arlington mom and they often have some camps, which may not be full day. Arlington parks and rec used to run some, so keep your eyes open for that too. |
Thank you. (And to the other specific recommendations as well!) this is helpful. |
