What is the best part of New Jersey to raise kids with HHI of 200k. Looking for good public schools, transportation to the city. |
Maplewood is very popular with the “formerly of Brooklyn” crowd, if you like that vibe. |
That is what i was thinking. Wonder how the schools are |
I live in Westchester County, north of NYC and there are lot of great school districts here you could afford to buy in if you have a decent down payment. |
I have a brother in Nutley and they have been super happy with the schools. Cute town. |
If you have children and the cost of college might be an issue, look at Staten Island and other places New York state (example: Yonkers; Tarrytown; Hastings on Hudson) first. Rutgers is a fine state flagship, but it’s really $40,000 a year or more, all-in, for in-state students. People in New York pay more taxes, but they have what I think is a better selection of in-state state university options. New York also has more reliable commuter rail service. If you have to live in New Jersey, at least look at Bayonne, Edgewater and Fort Lee before trusting your commute to New Jersey Transit’s commuter rail service. Maybe even consider Newark plus private school If bad commuter rail service isn’t a dealbreaker, then you might look at Montclair and South Orange when you’re looking in Maplewood |
Not Jersey. Upstate NY or CT. |
+! I know lots of families that moved to Maplewood and South Orange. |
Ridgewood, Wyckoff, Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus |
Property tax in NJ is 25% higher than CT and CT tax is already pretty high (like double it is in MD).
Worth considering. |
Montvale - quick commute + excellent schools
Ridgewood - a little bit farther, still a good choice Paramus - Paramus is to Ridgewood what Bethesda is to Chevy Chase. In other words, still an excellent choice |
Princeton |
Princeton is not a suburb of NYC. |
Ridgewood was a great place to grow up. A couple decades later, I am still friends with many people. Very education focused and produces a lot of successful people.
(Paramus would not be the Bethesda to the Chevy Chase. Assuming that the pp is referring to the next best thing, it would be Midland Park or Glen Rock; Paramus is close in proximity but doesn't compare.) |
Millburn, Summit, Chatham |
