Tested positive notices from MCPS every day

Anonymous
We have been receiving Someone tested positive notices from MCPS everyday from past 6 days. We also learned that there are several grades classrooms that are in quarantine now. Several parents said they were asked to come pickup the kids from school soon after they off boarded from the bus and got inside the building. This is getting really scary now and these notices looks like canned ones that they change the 2 dates (date when the person was in school and date when the person tested positive) and send it over. These notifications we receive are useless as there are no details.

I wonder when kids are in quarantine and if they show symptoms. Does parents report such symptoms to school so that they can contact trace and inform the impacted students?

What school?

If a student tests positive, does the whole class quarantine and have to get tested?

Not the OP, but yes for elementary schools.

They say only close contacts, but in ES I have not heard of anything but whole classrooms or grades quarantining. They should be honest about what the policy is.

Probably because the kids are unvaccinated and under 12?

Yes, what school.

Seems like posters are reluctant to name their schools. I wonder why. It’s not like someone reading here can trace it’s Larla’s mom who outed the school.

Is this a surprise? People are not distancing, traveling, dining out, socializing, indoor parties, sports, activities.... we are lucky its not worse than it is.

Well if that's the case, then they should say it. They say they are following their made-up policy that says that only people within 6 feet for 15+ minutes are quarantined, but they are not doing that.

I'm confused. We got a notification that a student got covid and the email says staff and students don't need to quarantine since they were not in close contact. They sit 6 to a row, take masks off at recess, how can they not be in close contact?

Of course the text is the same! Do you think a busy person has time to write a different one every day???? Unless you're a person who has ever been busy, surely you can understand that.

And... which school? My kids go to two different schools, and we've never received such messages daily.

Take a guess - has to be one of the ES that reported today:

It is unclear how they decide who quarantine and who need not. We hear from week 1 that some one test positive, later on entire class goes into quarantine. This is just week 3 and we keep receiving notifications that we need not quarantine since the child was not in close contact and then we learn that, there is 1 K grade, two 2nd grade, four 4th grade and three 5th grade classrooms are in quarantine now. None of the quarantine stuff is in the notification.

There have been 14 cases at our middle school. Cumulative, so the first notices were not related to the most recent ones. About 1,400 students. It’s not good, but also not surprising or overly alarming. Schools were not going to have better stats than the community. Hoping the delta peak is here or near.
