I'll wait...What's the point?

Anonymous
There have been two types of posts I've seen on Facebook lately that really irritate me. It's not that my friends are posting them, it's that they are typing a response to them, and so they show up on my facebook feed.

Type 1 asks a question, and then says "I'll wait." For example "Who can walk out of the house without makeup no problem... I'll wait" or "Who can say they've had a friend for at least 20 years...I'll wait."
They never have a question mark at the end of the question, which is irritating...and the "I'll wait." is just so...smug? Self rightous? I don't even know what word to use...but it bother's me.

Type 2 asks a question that makes it sound like it will be really hard to answer, but really it's very easy to answer. For example, I saw one today that said "I bet no one can tell me a woman's name that starts with T and ends with A"--and of course there are tons: Tara, Tabitha, Tamara, etc. Or "I bet you can't name a state that does not have the letter A in it"--and again, easy! Ohio, Oregon, New Mexico, etc.

What is the point of this?

OP here
and now I'm bothered that I noticed I put an apostrophe in "bother's"

Lots of people use the “I’ll wait” thing here on DCUM, too. File it under Dumb Things People Say on the Internet, along with “mic drop,” “cool story, bro,” and “ok, Karen.”

Yes, those are so stupid. Friends spending their time on earth answering those dumb questions. Scroll past.

response farming. Promoted by places (businesses?) to get responses and therefore increase their Facebook popularity in searches.

A related thing that really annoys me is people who post:

Lesson plan ideas on teaching the constitution. Annnndddd GO!

It's pretty common in education groups online. I find it so obnoxious.

I always thought the “I’ll wait” was for questions where you know you can’t/won’t get a response.
Ex: “you say that the sky isn’t really blue, it’s orange? Show me the evidence…I’ll wait.”

Another example of something that's just as annoying as "I'll wait."

This. On DCUM, at least, it means that the poster believes they have made an irrefutable point. I haven’t heard it in terms of stuff like wearing makeup outside…

It's better than GO!

Ex: Need reqs for a carpet installer: GO!

Yes, the "I'll wait" is when they believe that their point is 100% correct and no-one could possibly counter it.

Annoying and smug.

I also hate the: Do X for me...aaaannnnd GO! (always with extraneous letters in one or both words). It's just so peremptory and demanding. Ugh.

Just annoying internet talk.

I'll add...

"What do we think about XYZ?"

+100
I never comment on a "GO!". Sounds too much like a race and I'm too lazy for them.

Save yourself the irritation and get off Facebook altogether. It's nothing but a time suck and cause for drama. I've been off for 2 years although I do use Insta. FB is too political and too much family bullsh*t.
