That is close, but not quite the, DK logo. Regardless, the Dead Kennedy's are very much not racist. At risk of making the "black friend" fallacy, the last time I saw them play their drummer was black.

Of course, the possibility exists that that this guy couldn't actually understand the words to "California über alles"

The Dead Kennedys are a punk band that literally have a song entitled 'Nazi Punks F Off'.

No, they are not a racist band. Heh, the Green Room (movie with Sir Patrick Stewart) has a part in the movie where a punk band perform that song to a crowd of skinheads to rile them up.

No, the Dead Kennedy's are not a band usually associated with racists or neo-nazis. The Dead Kennedy's have a famous song called "Nazi Punks F*ck Off"

While this and all you said and others may be true, could they mistaken by idiots for racists? Here's their thinking (stupid people) Dead Kennedys are dead democrats! That's good. They sing about Nazi punks...that's good! They make trance-like punk music. I can smoke pot to that!

Misappropriation possible? Also, the dude was probably trying to do the symbol unless there are other symbol's I"m not familiar with. It's been awhile since i checked out the SPLC's list of symbols.

Dead Kennedys had disaffection for popular culture and society as a whole, so I guess racists could feel similarly alienated, while ignoring any songs inconveniently targeted at them. It is telling that DK had to make a song called "Nazi Punks F Off" But the whole Southern California punk scene in general attracted racist skinheads in the 80s and 90s, so this isn't unique to the Dead Kennedys.
